Serving God or Our Fleeting Emotions?

Bible Reading: Luke 16:13

The event is about to begin. There is a line at the door and people are filling the space. Everything is perfect. Decor. Food. Music.

Now all you have to do is mingle and enjoy the rest of the evening….right? NO!!! If you have ever hosted anything you know the last thing you can do is relax. It does not matter what kind of team is working with you, or what their skill set is, YOU will not be at ease until the last guest leaves. After all, this shindig features your talents. You are the one everyone will be talking about. It’s your name on the line. So why do we expect God to be different? If we are His children, the sheep of His pasture, what makes us believe that He isn’t mindful of every detail of the event we call life?

Ponder that for a moment.

Satan is the king of liars; his purpose is to kill, steal, and destroy. He will creep into our emotions making us anxious, worried, or doubtful. We doubt God hears our prayers so, we “figure out” a way to get it done. We worry over appearances and react impulsively. We are anxious and fear to miss a “blessing”. When we are overly emotional it is counterproductive to what God wants for us. There are times when we are to be still, trust, and believe His perfect timing is best for us. God is the Creator of all creation! Who better to handle the details of our daily lives? By reading His Word emotional mistakes are revealed and we are able to learn the schemes of the enemy: Peter was doubtful and ended up fishing a coin out of the mouth of a fish. Matthew 17:24-27.  Samuel was anxious and had to wait for David to come from the pasture. 1 Samuel 16:6-13. The sons of thunder James and John were worried about their perceived roles in the kingdom so Mama stepped in to speak to Jesus on their behalf. Matthew 20:20-28.

Where are you emotionally? Are you easily flustered and frustrated? Are you impulsive and jump into action rather than allowing God to have His perfect way? Are you easily angered or impatient and have to relearn the same lessons over and over again? Where ever you are, know that God gives you the capacity to operate in love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control.

The details of how we get things done and the way we are able to enjoy fellowship with one another reflect God’s impeccable light. We serve God alone when we pray for awareness; asking Him to give us clarity and insight along with the patience to endure the wait. Our talents showcase God’s purpose for us which is, to ultimately spread the Good News of His return.
