Bible Study & Devotional Day 133

Written By: Torrie Slaughter

Guiding Scripture: John 7:37-38 ‘On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

🔴 Infinite Water

Belief in Christ is an endless well of life, encouragement, and joy. When His water quenches our thirst, we offer this hydration to others. Think about those who require support, discipline, and refreshment. Perhaps the well-goers need to experience something out of the ordinary.

As you read today’s passages, think about what you offer to your neighbors. If we are overflowing with the love of Christ, we will joyfully refresh and ease their burdens.

Are you in need of spiritual nourishment?

Bible Study & Devotional Day 132

Written By: Torrie Slaughter

Guiding Scripture: 1 Samuel 12:19-25 ‘As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right. The people all said to Samuel, “Pray to the Lord your God for your servants so that we will not die, for we have added to all our other sins the evil of asking for a king.” “Do not be afraid,” Samuel replied. “You have done all this evil; yet do not turn away from the Lord , but serve the Lord with all your heart. Do not turn away after useless idols. They can do you no good, nor can they rescue you, because they are useless. For the sake of his great name the Lord will not reject his people, because the Lord was pleased to make you his own. But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you. Yet if you persist in doing evil, both you and your king will perish.”‘

🔴 Two Wrongs Don’t Make A Right

The people of Isreal rejected the Lord as their Almighty King and opted for an earthly one. Someone they could ‘see’. Amid their actions, Samuel took action by interceding on their behalf. Instead of waiting for God’s wrath, the spirit of the Lord hastened Samuel. The people did evil in the sight of God, and yet, He had mercy.

Think about the things you have asked others to do that went against God’s purpose. Our short-sighted and temporary desires cause harm to those within the body of Christ. As you read today’s passages, think about the contrast between the prophet Samuel and Jesus’ brothers. (John 7:6-8) The lack of belief is still present today.

Is it time to ask God to help you in your unbelief?

Bible Study & Devotional Day 131

Guiding Scripture: John 6:51 ‘I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” ‘

🔴 Living Bread

Chapter 1 of the Gospel of John verse 14 tells us that the Word became flesh and dwelled among us. God’s Son is full of grace and truth. Believers have the opportunity to live a life in eternity. The bread that God gives isn’t just heavenly manna; He offers us, Heaven.

The Holy Spirit transforms us as He works from within. Isn’t that incredible?! We don’t see how the physical food we eat benefits our bodies, yet we eat to satisfy an immediate hunger. The living bread will forever provide nourishment to our souls.

Deuteronomy 8:3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every Word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

As we read today’s passages, think about your hunger. Is it for worldly things? 1 Corinthians 10:17 unifies the body of Christ because we all eat One bread. The truth of the living God. If you are convicted of questioning the motives of your ecosystem, try praying for clarity. The change always begins within us.

Is it time to alter your nutrition?

Bible Study & Devotional Day 129

Written By: Torrie Slaughter

Guiding Scripture: John 6:19-21 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on water, and they were frightened. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid.” 21 Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.”

 🔴 In Awe of Christ

Reverential fear allows us to serve our Lord humbly. His miraculous wonders should be regular occurrences because we believe. Are you in awe of Christ? Allow God to simplify your life by focusing on Him.

When the disciples knew it was Jesus they welcomed Him into the boat. As we read in Matthew 14:28-31, Peter asked if he could walk on water with Him. The added details from different perspectives is what makes the Word of God such a marvelous truth. God wants His people to be unique and walk faithfully with Him.

 Do it, afraid.

Although fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief, we are in danger, or something unwelcomed will happen, the other side is excitement. We can embrace the unknown simply because we know Christ is with us.

James Frey, the author of The Final Testament of the Holy Bible, wrote:

“Loss of control is always the source of fear; it is also, however, always the source of change.”

As you read today’s scriptures, pray and be encouraged to speak honestly to God. Three ways we can invite others to see Christ in us:

  1. Ask God to help you identify the encouragers in your life.
  2. Don’t lose sight of the bigger picture and what role you play in the lives of others.
  3. Be bold about your faith and actively seek ways to change the dynamic within your home, workplace, and classroom.

Each of us must confront our own fears, must come face to face with them. How we handle our fears will determine where we go with the rest of our lives. To experience adventure or to be limited by the fear of it.” –Judy Blume

As we celebrate Mother’s Day here in the United States, let’s explore the things we have in common. By acknowledging our fears, anxieties, and questions, we have about our character; we can apply the healing balm of Christ. Choose to walk in truth by training your thoughts to obey God. He is the unity we seek to dwell.

Bible Study & Devotional Day 123

Written By: Torrie Slaughter

Guiding Scriptures: Psalm 104:23 ‘ Man goes out to his work and to his labor until the evening.’

 🔴 Humility In Action

In John chapter 3, we read about Nicodemus, a member of the Sanhedrin and a teacher in Israel. He comes to Jesus by night searching for understanding. We’ve read in Judges how the cloak of darkness tends to remove fear. It seems to help those searching for truth or obey God’s commands.
While you read today’s passages, think about the things you have searched for in the midnight hour. For what truth are you searching? God reveals Himself to those willing to receive Him, and that has not changed.
We can be born again into Christ. Be prepared to remove the idols, obey His commands, and not seek earthly approval.
God grants wisdom, and He sent Jesus our Savior as an instructor. He is the Living Water from where we can drink. Empty yourself, so His eternal life can fill you.
