Guiding Scripture: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” (Psalm 46:1-3)

🔴 How to Reset When You’re Overwhelmed

Right now, I’m in the middle of an unexpected move. My house is in what I can only describe as a state of barely controlled chaos, and my brain feels like an internet browser with about thirty-seven tabs open at the same time.

Which items should we take, and which ones should we give away? How much will it cost to hire movers? How are the kids coping? How am I managing? Are we all going to get to our new destination with our sanity intact?

The word that best illustrates how I feel at the moment is…overwhelmed.

It is a word that every woman can relate to at some point in her life, especially this year. So many of us are juggling a myriad of challenges: working from home, virtual learning, staying healthy, and a neverending list of household tasks with fewer options and less support.

It can feel like you’re treading water. You pull yourself up just long enough to get a breath, only to go right back to paddling furiously again. It can feel like the cycle never ends.

And that’s when you need a reset.

Whether it be with our careers, our relationships, or even our health, however, you can also choose to reset your life when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Here are some helpful ways to reset:

  1. Take care of your most pressing physical needs first. In other words, if you’re exhausted, rearrange your schedule to get sleep as soon as possible. If you’re hungry, drop whatever can wait and eat. If you’re sick, force yourself to rest. I know this is much easier said than done, but the hard truth is that the longer you go without self-care, the more you’ll suffer in the long run.
  2. Find a few minutes to spend time alone with God. Isaiah 26:3 tells us, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you.” When you make time with God a priority, he responds by giving you His peace. Not only that, but He also gives you direction about what to do next. Ironically, the times when you’re overwhelmed and think you don’t have time for God are when you need Him most.
  3. Ask for help. That might be the most challenging step to execute. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says, “Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” If you don’t have a support system, building one is a priority. Your local church is a great place to start. And if you do have support, humble yourself and ask for it. Don’t have a nervous breakdown because of pride.

These are a few of the coping mechanisms I use whenever I’m feeling stressed. They may not take my challenges away, but they give me the strength I need to fight another day. I hope they’ll do the same for you.

Daily Bible Study with Purpose

Genesis 24:12
And he said, “O Lord, God of my master Abraham, please grant me success today and show steadfast love to my master Abraham.

🔴 Successful!

What does success mean to you? Do your thoughts go to wealthy, well-known – famous, owners of large houses/estates, huge businesses, athletes, or actors? What about the stay at home mom who has raised or currently raising children to be respectful, obedient, trustworthy, and honorable moral individuals? What about the working dad, living a Godly life for his children and his wife?

How does God view success? We only need to read God’s Holy Bible to know that God desires us to live good lives in the right relationship with Him. God expects us to be slow to anger and give great thoughtfulness before speaking in honesty. (James 1:19) A good reputation and moral character through spiritual obedience are how God views success!

Everything that we have comes from God. Every gift God has blessed you with should be used for His glory! Whatever you do for others should be done as if you are doing it for God’s approval!

Colossians 3:23 Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, help us to see success in the way that you do. Please help us live purposeful, productive lives that will enable us to live eternally with you as we work diligently and disciplined according to your will. Increase our love, faith, and trust to honor you in all we do. We pray this in Your Name.

John 3:3,  Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”

🔴 IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY!

Time to celebrate! I love love, love celebrating birthdays. It is a special day and a good time to reflect and be thankful for another year that God has blessed you to see!

Next month, I will write a little more about birthdays, so get ready to brace and prepare yourself. In case you are wondering why, well, I’ll be glad to tell you! I start my birthday celebration on the first of November and keep going straight through until the end of the year! Please don’t knock it until you try it!

Just as significant as the day you were born is the rebirth through God’s transformative blood on the cross. Accepting Christ into your heart is the rebirth. That is the birthday that takes you out of this world and to eternity. It is better than any gift you will ever receive because it has been signed and sealed by God upon your acceptance of His Son, Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 1:23, “For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.”

Jesus is inviting all who want to celebrate with Him in Heaven! Make sure you have accepted His invitation so that you, too, can be signed, sealed, and delivered in His kingdom.

Matthew 11:28-30, Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Just as our Father in heaven gives us the gift of eternal life He helps us spiritually mature. Below are a few questions to ask yourself. Pray, reflect, and seek God’s guidance to keep pressing forward.

Journal Prompts:

  1. Think about one way that you have grown over the past year.  How did you accomplish growth?
  2. Do you think spiritual growth is difficult?  Why or why not?
  3. What is your life philosophy?  What can you do to ensure that you are living it every day?

On Tuesday, January 7, 2020, Our Given Purpose, the Podcast we began the course of identifying our major emotional blocks.  We start with anger and work our way through arrogance, pride, and fear. Each of these extreme emotions breeds and molds our character.

This year my prayer is that we will all pause before we speak or react. In doing so, we become doers of the Word and not just hearers of it. James 1:19-21 is the foundation of this first 12 -week session

A Word From the Host

“I am honored to share my story with you as these weekly videos continue. Talking about my past transgressions and witnessing to God’s healing and deliverance is therapeutic for me.

This is my journey through pain, unforgiveness, anger, pride, arrogance, and fear. I believe the difficult situations I grew through helped me develop this strategy I am sharing with you. I continue to learn and become stronger in my faith. The relationship God sought to cultivate with me is transcendent.

My Past:

→When I was 25 years old, my outer appearance defined me. I struggled with my identity because the purpose of life was abandoned to a rebellious worldly ambition. I didn’t know who I was. It took ten years before I woke up to the reality that I was dead in life. No matter the number of good deeds I performed, nothing would gain me any satisfaction until I surrendered to God. I was involved in a culture of self-deprecating, self-consuming, and irrational behavior. I repressed the feelings of anger and fear; that led to rebellious acts against God. With no direction or significance, I went on a dead-end journey to seek meaning in a life created by my circumstances.

→It is now my passion to warn others against the travails of this world, and the proverbial carrots dangled overhead. Through prayer, meditation, education, and overall a real relationship with God, I offer a ministry dedicated to helping others reclaim their inheritance.
