A Daily Purpose

Bible Study & Devotional Day 39

🔴 Community Involvement

The clothing for the priests reflected the exceptional work they were engaged. God ordered everything with the intent to set His servants apart to minister in His Holy presence. The priest served as a representation of God’s desire to dwell among them.

Exodus 28:3 tells us God endowed skilled workers with a spirit of wisdom to carry out His plans. Our Lord created an atmosphere of community within the foundation of the church. He wanted these blessed people called together. WOW!

“If worship does not emphasize God’s holiness, there is something awry.”

In the New Testament

As we move into Matthew 26:1-13, we read the familiar story of the woman anointing Christ’s head with oil. She brought all she had to the Savior to display her devotion as onlookers  sneered (Matthew 26:8). Yet, Jesus reinterprets her act (Matthew 26:10). Women who serve in churches, corporations, lead ministries, and community leaders face offense from those who will misinterpret their actions.

I want to encourage women especially, not to let the ‘offended’ become a snare. (I am preaching to myself first.)

The close-minded people will reveal themselves, but God will prevail. Allow Him to vindicate you. Give your all until it is clear your skills will better serve another area. Wait on the Lord to answer your cries for help.

Psalm 31 is a well-versed lamentation prayer and celebrates the blessings of the Lord. When your body is worn, and your clouded mind is anxious with thoughts, use Psalm 31:18-20 to vent your rage and praise God for all He is doing for the good of those who love Him.

Prayer: Oh Lord, let the lying lips be mute, which speak insolently against the righteous in pride and contempt. Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear and worked for those who take refuge in you. I express my trust in you; Lord, have mercy upon me. We are mindful of your remarkable deliverances in the past, and we know we serve an all-mighty living God. Thy will be done. Amen

Guiding Scripture: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” (Psalm 46:1-3)

🔴 How to Reset When You’re Overwhelmed

Right now, I’m in the middle of an unexpected move. My house is in what I can only describe as a state of barely controlled chaos, and my brain feels like an internet browser with about thirty-seven tabs open at the same time.

Which items should we take, and which ones should we give away? How much will it cost to hire movers? How are the kids coping? How am I managing? Are we all going to get to our new destination with our sanity intact?

The word that best illustrates how I feel at the moment is…overwhelmed.

It is a word that every woman can relate to at some point in her life, especially this year. So many of us are juggling a myriad of challenges: working from home, virtual learning, staying healthy, and a neverending list of household tasks with fewer options and less support.

It can feel like you’re treading water. You pull yourself up just long enough to get a breath, only to go right back to paddling furiously again. It can feel like the cycle never ends.

And that’s when you need a reset.

Whether it be with our careers, our relationships, or even our health, however, you can also choose to reset your life when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Here are some helpful ways to reset:

  1. Take care of your most pressing physical needs first. In other words, if you’re exhausted, rearrange your schedule to get sleep as soon as possible. If you’re hungry, drop whatever can wait and eat. If you’re sick, force yourself to rest. I know this is much easier said than done, but the hard truth is that the longer you go without self-care, the more you’ll suffer in the long run.
  2. Find a few minutes to spend time alone with God. Isaiah 26:3 tells us, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you.” When you make time with God a priority, he responds by giving you His peace. Not only that, but He also gives you direction about what to do next. Ironically, the times when you’re overwhelmed and think you don’t have time for God are when you need Him most.
  3. Ask for help. That might be the most challenging step to execute. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says, “Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” If you don’t have a support system, building one is a priority. Your local church is a great place to start. And if you do have support, humble yourself and ask for it. Don’t have a nervous breakdown because of pride.

These are a few of the coping mechanisms I use whenever I’m feeling stressed. They may not take my challenges away, but they give me the strength I need to fight another day. I hope they’ll do the same for you.

🟥 The Message:

Put Me In Coach! The Danger of Unawareness the Podcast. The message of today’s instructional session is in three parts. We begin with the C of copping our purpose. Clarity, which means defining what we need to be aware of and use our focal scripture 2 Corinthians 12:20 as a frame. The O of copping our purpose. We organize our thoughts by identifying common struggle areas—finally, the P of copping our purpose. We prepare with solutions. The answers you provide to the journal prompts, and the exercise will guide you toward a different perspective; this is how we will Clarify.Organize.Prepare.

🔺This session began with an overview of 2 Corinthians 12 in Elements of Arrogance and Pride 101 the Podcast. Our focal scripture for the next 12 weeks is 2 Corinthians 12:20. The Apostle Paul helps us because he was obedient to the will of God. Let’s glean from his messages to the people of Corinth today. We do not want our Lord and Savior to return, finding us in the same state of rebellion or wickedness. To be transformed by the renewing of our minds means we must do our work. Clarifying, organizing, and preparing to do our assignment each day takes strategic planning with God.
