Bible Study & Devotional Day 154

Written by: Torrie Slaughter

Guiding Scripture: Psalm 121:2 ‘My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. ‘

Today we begin the Book of Acts as Luke tells us (Theophilus) how Jesus changed the trajectory of humanity. Receiving the Holy Spirit as a guide and teacher is the gift Christ leaves to all who love Him. We can trust our Lord to provide wisdom when we don’t know what to do.

Partnering with God requires us to ask, seek, and pray without ceasing. His Word is a Light unto our path, but only if we stay sober-minded. To have confidence in our God is a stance of faith. Taking the next step while trusting our feet to be on solid ground is the challenge. The world manipulates truth and tells us we won’t die if we go against our Lord. Being independent, self-sufficient, and creating a unique path seems worthy.

Blazing a Trail

God wants us to rely on Him. We can follow His commands as a set apart individual within the body of Christ.

As you read today’s passages, think about Sheba from 2 Samuel 20 and Shimei from 2 Samuel 16. These men made impactful decisions. Both were bold, but their motivations were different. Ponder the influence of the wise woman (2 Samuel 20:16-19) who dared to speak to Joab that she might save the city from destruction.

Consider what you would do to strengthen a community instead of increasing division. Is God your source of strength? Are you confident in His sovereignty?

🔴This Mentoring Session is the Season 8 Premier!!
There are many reasons we don’t ask for help. In today’s podcast I discuss a few. The first, self-esteem:
Self-esteem encompasses beliefs about oneself (for example, “I am unloved,” “I am worthy”) as well as emotional states, such as triumph, despair, pride, and shame.
So what does the Bible tell us, and how can we begin elevating our concept of worth? I want to draw your attention to Ephesians 4 verse 25. I believe self-esteem comes from the love we are to have for each other. Equality in the body leads to tremendous growth and a unified message from the church, which is us within the body of Christ.
Ephesians 4:25 AMP. Therefore, rejecting all falsehood [whether lying, defrauding, telling half-truths, spreading rumors, any such as these], SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are all parts of one another [and we are all parts of the body of Christ].
Speak truth! As you meditate on the Word of God, take time to let the tension rise and embrace it. If we minimize who we are, we minimize the God we worship.

Love Creates Momentum: Leading an Interconnected Life

SHOW NOTES: http://www.ourgivenpurpose.com
👋 Hello People of Purpose!

Welcome to the season 7 finale of Our Given Purpose the podcast! Over the last twelve weeks, we have discussed several topics, but investment was the root. What is our investment in ourselves, others, and most significantly, God?

For the finale, I want to focus on the investment of planning with God.

Throughout the Bible, we have examples of God’s people partnering with Him. Of course, He chooses these distinct individuals that were always flawed and usually sinned against God somehow while trying to balance God’s holiness and the world’s seductive evil. None of us are immune to the disease of sin and how it destroys trust and relationships.

Theologian Thomas Lea concluded that the 5 dangers for people living life without consideration of God are:

  1. A stifled the prayer life.
  2. It makes one a friend of the world and an enemy of God.
  3. They neglect God’s will in their lives.
  4. Rebelling against God produces insult and slander of fellow believers.
  5.  It produces people who plan their lives without seeking God.

God deserves our time, effort, and energy. Will you purpose to focus on Him more?

Talking on Purpose the Podcast & Internet Show also celebrated the end of season 7. If you have not had a chance to watch or listen we would love to hear your feedback!

A Daily Purpose

Bible Study & Devotional by Casey Alexis

Guiding Scripture: James 1:2-4, “Consider it all joy, my brothers, whenever you encounter various trials, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing.”

A couple of days after my 39th birthday, I found out I was expecting. I was filled with so much joy and hope to know that God fulfilled His promise. The anticipation is a beautiful thing and keeps us looking forward to the occurrence. God brings forth incredible things!

Expectancy doesn’t just apply to pregnancy.

We can expect the fulfillment of a promise, dream, or vision- a faith that the things we hope for will eventually come to fruition. Most of us have experienced seasons of expectation. What happens when you’re tested through various trials as you wait in anticipation?

In my ninth month of expectation, doubt entered my mind:

“What the heck is going on?! Have I committed some sin I didn’t know about?” “Do I have some hidden idol in my home?” It was reminiscent of the children of Isreal in the desert…” somebody sinned in the camp.” (Joshua 7:19-20) How can a promise of God be tested so much? If God said it, why am I being trialed in this way? Especially when the fulfillment of my promise is right around the corner.

I started to go down the woe-is-me route, but then I remembered, “Be anxious for nothing, but pray about everything (Philippians 4-6).”

As I prayed, the bible verse from James 1 dropped into my heart. I immediately ran to that scripture and began to meditate upon it. Once I did, the heavy burden of the sufferings lifted off my shoulders, and then it hit me!

Many believers give up on the promises of God in their ninth month of expectancy.

When things get tough, we don’t allow that particular pain to build our endurance. We hardly allow ourselves to become mature, complete, and lacking in anything. Instead, we walk away from the very thing that used to prosper us, give us hope, and a future. Endurance for a believer builds our strength to fight against the enemy. Without perseverance, our faith is easily shaken, battered, bruised, and destroyed, never fully capable of fighting the good fight of faith and running the race Paul described in 2 Timothy 4.

To endure as a believer is a testament of God’s word being made whole in us as the Bible speaks in Nehemiah 8:10, “the joy of the Lord is my strength,” and in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.”

Brothers and sisters, let us all endure to the end.

Let us hold on to the truth of God’s word and allow it to be made perfect in us. In season and out of season, let us trust God to fulfill all of His promises in us, knowing that God is not a man that He should lie (Numbers 23:19). When He says it, it will come to pass, not just for the sake of us, but for the world who watches in anticipation to find out if this God thing is real.

Most of us are walking Gospels to our families, friends, co-workers, and other believers whose faith may not be as great as ours. Please don’t give up because a trial made to build you feels like it has come to destroy you. No, it is allowed to create a more robust version of who God has called you to be. You are a warrior, and warriors are called to fight to the very end. Put on your full armor of God and endure!
