Bible Study & Devotional Day 171

Written by: Torrie Slaughter

Guiding Scripture:  1 Kings 22:7 ‘But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no longer a prophet of the Lord here whom we can inquire of?”

🔴The ‘Yes’ People

I’m sure many of us have desired the Lord to bless an idea. We think it is the best solution, and in our excitement, we persuade others to buy in.

In today’s reading, King Jehosophat tells King Ahab to consult Yahweh before going to war. King Ahab did inquire through 400 lords. The term used is Adonay which meant anyone with authority, whether human or divine, could give advice.

1 Kings 22:7 is my lesson, and God shot.

Seeking wisdom from people of God should be done with discernment. Everyone who claims to follow the Lord Jesus Christ may not be faithful witnesses. Jehosophat knew the prophets King Ahab summoned were Baal worshipers, and he wanted an answer from the Most High God.

If we surround ourselves with people who fear challenging our plans or going against the desires of our hearts, that is sorcery. It’s time to break the spells by first seeking forgiveness and then repenting of sins. Those in our circles should have a reverential fear of God. Check your ‘yes people’ and ask if they feel comfortable speaking the truth from God.

Prayer: Lord, lead us in Your ways and help us to follow your wisdom. Our fear is of Your mighty nature; please do not let us make people our idols. Remove the false prophets from our lives that we may be Your light shining in the darkness. Your Word reminds us that we cannot be spiritually blind and lead others. Continue to work within the hearts of your people. Thank You, gracious Abba Father, Amen.

👋 In This Mentoring Session

Minimizing negative self-talk begins with a strategic system. Use the Word of God to help you plan your day and keep you from circling the drain.
Isaiah 26:3 You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
and now flip back to
2 Corinthians 10:5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,

Here are some questions to consider:

  • Do you have trouble receiving a compliment?
  • Can you practice thinking lovely thoughts about yourself?

“How will you know what your thoughts are thinking if you never see what they are saying?”~Torrie Slaughter

Bible Study & Devotional Day 131

Written By: Torrie Slaughter

Guiding Scripture: John 6:51 ‘I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” ‘

🔴 Living Bread

Chapter 1 of the Gospel of John verse 14 tells us that the Word became flesh and dwelled among us. God’s Son is full of grace and truth. Believers have the opportunity to live a life in eternity. The bread that God gives isn’t just heavenly manna; He offers us, Heaven.

The Holy Spirit transforms us as He works from within. Isn’t that incredible?! We don’t see how the physical food we eat benefits our bodies, yet we eat to satisfy an immediate hunger. The living bread will forever provide nourishment to our souls.

Deuteronomy 8:3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every Word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

As we read today’s passages, think about your hunger. Is it for worldly things? 1 Corinthians 10:17 unifies the body of Christ because we all eat One bread. The truth of the living God. If you are convicted of questioning the motives of your ecosystem, try praying for clarity. The change always begins within us.

Is it time to alter your nutrition?

🎧 Meanwhile: A Public Response to Internal Timing! A Season 7 REWIND Episode

🔻🔻🔻🔻

In this episode, we are going to dive deeper into the meanwhile… What is happening outside our immediate orbit? Why does the Word of God always remind us to look beyond the present circumstance? We know our timing is not the Lord’s. Ecclesiastes 3:11 lays out this profound wisdom: ”He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.”

God’s truth causes conflict. It is the tension at the intersection of the cross and begs us to choose a righteous response.” ~Torrie Slaughter

This Mentoring Session:

Meanwhile: A Public Response to Internal Timing, will take you on an adventure. One that I pray will lead you to meditate on God’s Holy Word! He is the giver of life, the epitome of love. He drives out darkness, gives hope to the hopeless, He sent the Holy Spirit to live inside us. God interacts with His creation; however, everyone will not experience His healing power. We can continue to intercede on their behalf. Pray for those who are suffering from the broken godly relationship. Send a text message reminding them that they can receive the gift of salvation and there is nothing they have to do but accept Jesus into their heart. You caring about the spirit of that person could make the difference. Don’t be afraid to reach out and be bold with your faith.
