Bible Study & Devotional Day 71

Guiding Scripture: Psalm 55:1-23

🔴  The Toy Wheel

Betrayal is challenging to navigate, especially when it’s a close friend. While it isn’t easier to deal with a stranger or enemy, at least the situation is explainable. Psalm 55 is the emotional place many of us have experienced. We feel trapped by hostile forces, and yet that doesn’t shake our trust. However, those who cried, talked, laughed, and loved with us make the burden of chaos unbearable.

If you feel attacked by the enemy as he uses your career, home, schedule, or loved ones against you, be still. Ask God to help you follow His will and not lean into your own understanding.

Prayer and reflection will remind us that we are human no matter how ‘closely’ we walk with God. We all fall short. (Romans 3:23) We need our Lord to help us clarify and organize to solve issues of the heart with compassion.

Application

I have often used the analogy of the grocery cart to explain how our actions affect everyone. We can sit in the cart with the fake steering wheel and believe we have control. But standing right behind us is the person operating every turn, controlling the speed, and direction.

However, just like children grow up to realize all their car sounds and foot movements were in vain, they have two options:

  1. Continue the fantasy and pretend they control everything.
  2. Be honest, so the enemy doesn’t trick them.

Games are fun until they become disruptive.

Take inventory of how you operate in reality. Ask God to open the eyes of your heart. We can all follow these simple steps:

  • Observe the actions and reactions
  • Prepare to improve communication.
  • Focus on the goal of growth.

When we’ve been hurt or betrayed, its hard to forgive, isn’t it? We may not talk to the person or avoid them altogether. We let others know of our hurt’s gravity and how ruthless and downright wrong the other person was. We will…if prompted, give all the details of what happened. Soon we are reliving the event repeatedly, not allowing any room for forgiveness, correction, reflection, or healing.

But what if we follow the example of Psalm 55…

When someone does something that hurts or offends us, we first pray to God. Ask Him to help us see if we had any fault. We can petition God to soften our hearts and encourage us to forgive.

How we react in real life has real consequences. The way we balance hurt, disappointment, rejection, deceit, false accusations is a testimony to how well we know ourselves and how mature in spirit we are. We have to know God. Meanwhile, think of the remarkable restraint, grace, kindness, and mercy, He shows us. As we grow in God, we learn to control selfish urges and pray to look at the whole picture.

Try talking to God! He is always available. Set up an appointment and make time to have tea with the Lord. If you’re not quite ready to take that step, that’s ok; find a trusted person, counselor, life coach to talk through your problems and get the help you need.

In Conclusion:

I used to end each episode of Our Given Purpose the Podcast with this reminder:

There’s purpose in our emotions. We choose how to react. Be humble and not arrogant. Be kind and not angry. Be modest and not prideful. Have faith and not fear.

Choose to be the light God wants you to shine.

🔴 Reside with Love

How do we love our neighbor?

We learn how to be a friend by becoming one. Following Christ’s example, we can study the Word of God and apply it to our lives.

Prayer is a powerful tool, but like anything, we have to practice exercising our spiritual muscles. How will we know God is speaking to us? We have the power of discernment to receive God’s word; by getting to know Him, we can imitate what we read. Turn to God and become healthy in mind, body, and spirit. Enjoy the freedom of knowing God is the essential part of our day.

The whole point is to show love; to be love, we must communicate what the other cannot see. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfector of our faith. We can trust Him to give us the answers and steer us in the correct direction. Letting go of the arrogance of believing we can do it ourselves.

Love serves, love disciplines, love is faithful, love is sincere. Love is a responsibility of our hearts. We must love God, so we can fully love ourselves to reciprocate that love to each other. Our lives have meaning when what we are doing is part of God’s purpose for us.
It is at the center of who we are and the work Christ did on the cross to redeem us.

“Love is a destination. It is a place we want to reside.”

Love shouldn’t be Greek to us. 😉

  • Storge – empathy bond.
  • Philia – friend bond.
  • Eros – romantic love.
  • Agape – unconditional “God” love.

🎧 30 Days in Review Part 2. Season 7 Episode 8

🔻🔻🔻🔻

Prayer is the solution for everything. The peace and joy come from the internal knowledge that this life is temporary. Perhaps in our work environment, the bullies we experience online, in business, and in ministry are afraid because your character and excellence speak louder than their title.

When divided in any area of our life, we need to invest in prayer. Take everything to the Lord and ask Him what we are blocking because of fear.
While we wait on the Lord for His answer, remember the truth of His Word. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us, All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

What new habits or systems have you created? Check over your notes and look back in those journals. You may not be aware of the incredible ways God has transformed areas of your life to align with His divine plan.

A Daily Purpose

Bible Study & Devotional Day 53

🔴 The Winking Eye

Guiding Scripture: Proverbs 10:10 Whoever winks maliciously causes grief, and a chattering fool comes to ruin.
Additional Scriptures Psalm 35:19, Proverbs 16:30, Proverbs 6:13

Words to Ponder

  • Insight- the potential to gain an accurate and deep intuitive understanding of a person or thing.
  • Discretion-the quality of behaving or speaking in such a way as to avoid causing offense or revealing private information.
  • Knowledge-the ability to achieve a proper and deep intuitive understanding of a person or thing.

Poetry

Those closest to me know I like poetry, especially Edgar Allen Poe. Wait, don’t stop reading! It was Tell-Tale Heart that first grasped my attention and had me sitting on the edge of my chair as I listened to my 5th-grade teacher speak in a haunting tone. At that moment, mystery, suspense, and intrigue gripped me in a most incredible sensory overload. And then it was over. It started with the vexing of an eye and ended with a beating heart.

Proverbs 10:10, “Whoever winks maliciously causes grief, and a chattering fool comes to ruin.”

Knowledge

The Word of God gives us wisdom; a malicious wink of the eye has an evil intent that causes trouble. It is an arrogant display of someone who thinks himself wise. That small demonstration through involuntary action is a secret signal to others that something else will happen.

When you are vexed by your actions and cannot cry out to God, ask yourself: Who is in my eye?

In Mark 6:1-6, we read as the countrymen are both astonished and offended by Jesus. Their unbelief vexed our Savior, and He worked few miracles. They did not want to trust what their eyes saw happening nor what their ears witnessed. While under the guidance of Jesus, the disciples were sent out two by two. They preached and had the power to perform miracles. (Mark 6:7-13)

Have you ever struggled like King David between grace and corruption? He presents an example of how to lament to God in Psalm 39:1-13.
The belief that David was deathly ill and sin caused his affliction kept him silent. We often keep quiet when confession would free us from the chains of pride, arrogance, and self-pity.

Remember, life is fragile, and the Bible describes its brevity in contrast to eternity. We have only moments to fulfill our purpose within God’s plan. How will you spend your time? Will you be vexed by the unfaithful or shaking off the dust and moving to receptive hearts? Your time is a precious commodity.

🟥 Take Action

Who is trying to kill, steal, or destroy your purpose?

When things threaten to disorder our lives, God will rescue us. When something, the enemy, temptation, threatens to disorder our lives, God will save us. Who are you permitting to rearrange your divine Holy Spirit?

Clarify what does it mean to think about things eternal?
Read and meditate using Colossians 3:1-4.
What purpose has God given you, and how do you serve Him?

Organize by asking God to increase your awareness. How can you advance His Kingdom? If you feel stuck and don’t know where to turn, read Philippians 4:8. Meditate on truth, honor, rightness, purity, grace, excellence, and praiseworthy things. Prayer will produce action.

“Look for the redeeming qualities within your situation. Dirt doesn’t shine, but it can grow new things. Plant a seed and wait to see what happens.” Torrie Slaughter

Prepare with wisdom! As Christ-followers, disagreements, and offenses will come. Ask God to remind you to speak His Word without fear. Read Philippians 1:12 and think beyond your current situation. Ask God if what is happening will serve to advance the Gospel.

  ~Torrie Slaughter

Scriptures for Meditation:

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
