Bible Study & Devotional Day 94

Written By Torrie Slaughter

Guiding Scripture: Luke 11:9-10

🔴Love is Inclusive

Warning: Worry, doubt, fear, shame, guilt- these emotions have the power to take up residency in our minds. They divide and define relationships preventing humility that keeps us from asking, seeking, knocking.

Jesus teaches us that some areas will not accept God’s blessing. (Matthew 13:58) As people, we are often blind to the miraculous wonders our Lord wants to provide.

Proverbs 12:15 The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.

Brothers and Sisters:

  • What has been moved just out of your reach, causing you to fail?
  • What are you leaning on to keep your balance?

If we ask the wrong people and seek to be more like this world by balancing on temporary things, we will collapse. It is a design of the enemy to distract us from right living. The pretenders are giving us wax fruit. The wax fruit of the pretenders looks beautiful and beneficial from a distance, but we are disappointed when we take a bite. Those who know their fate want to kill, steal, and destroy God’s children.

But God!

He teaches us to be resilient and how to overcome the weapons formed against us.(Isaiah 54:17) Approach the throne of God with humility and keep asking, seeking, and knocking. The consequences of our actions will remain; however, our Lord forgives, and He will not let us starve.

Meditate on Forgiveness

Prayer changes our focus. Remember God knows our thoughts, sees our deeds, and knows how we will react. As He taught His disciples, Christ Jesus leaves this message of forgiveness for us (Luke 11:4). Forgiveness is the act of setting aside punishment and resentment for an offense. It is a condition of repentance. The effect of forgiveness is the restoration of the parties involved to the former state of a relationship. We want to be restored to Christ our God first, which means we must forgive others. Forgiveness is a duty and limitless….yes that means repeated.

By trusting in God for the right things, we can have confidence that our Lord will provide. Submit to His will to be done and receive the eternal reward.

Prayer: Lord my God, we trust you to remove anything that hinders us from bearing fruit for You. We know you can do the impossible, help us in our unbelief that we may follow wholeheartedly after you. Father, you work all things together for good and will graciously give us all things. We will bear with one another and forgive each other as you; our Lord has forgiven us. We put on the love that binds everything together in perfect harmony. We are thankful. Amen.

Bible Study & Devotional Day 86

Written By Torrie Slaughter

Guiding Scripture: Psalm 69:1-18

🔴 Drowning in Turmoil

Have you ever felt like you were drowning? Not in water but just overwhelmed by life! Perhaps your zeal for God while serving in your community, business, relationships, or church, isn’t received. Maybe you are constantly ridiculed by pietistic attitudes. Well, it’s easy to believe we are suffering alone.

The psalmist speaks of this inner turmoil, and his language is a desperate cry for God to act urgently. The enemies and those who hate without cause are numerous; he cannot escape his torment.

What would you do?

Cry out to the One who understands and can calm your spirit…

Christ Jesus knows what it feels like to be hated and to restore what He did not remove. That alone should give us hope! If we keep our hearts and minds focused on God through praise and worship, it is a healing balm.
The answer doesn’t seem obvious, but forgiving our enemies as Christ did as He hung on the cross, will release your inner turmoil. Think about how much more you will understand His Kingdom.

God knows us at the most intimate level. Psalm 38:5 My wounds stink and fester because of my foolishness,
and Psalm 69:5 O God, you know my folly; the wrongs I have done are not hidden from you.

The stronger language of Psalm 38:5 reminds us of how disgusting our sin is and that we are not always victims. I believe God will work in our lives to show us the gravity of our apostasy and idol worship, no matter our social status.

But woe to those who lead others astray. (Matthew 18:6, 2 Peter 2:1)

When we acknowledge our guilt, confessing our sins to God, and seeking forgiveness from those we have wronged, the Lord delights in our behavior. We also can forgive by interceding on their behalf. Psalm 69:6 says: Let not those who hope in you be put to shame through me, O Lord God of hosts; let not those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel.

Those who seek the fellowship and guidance of Jesus will also submit to His ways. Humble yourselves and ask God to “Draw near to your soul, redeem you.”

🟥The Message:

Jorge Ortega y Gasset, a Spanish philosopher, wrote- “Tell me to what you pay attention, and I will tell you who you are.”

Fear Exposed:

A root is- the part of a plant that attaches it to the ground or to a support, typically underground, conveying water and nourishment to the rest of the plant via numerous branches and fibers.

Meditate plan mentally; consider: to think carefully about something.
Think carefully and consider God’s Word every moment of every day. He does not give us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and self-control. To be transformed by the renewing of our minds means we must do our work. Clarifying, organizing, and preparing to do our assignment each day takes strategic planning with God.

🟥 Take Action

The prosperity gospel is not just about preaching health and wealth. Any idol that determines to be the work we must do to receive what has been done is a prosperity preaching. For example, patriotism, happiness, liberty, miracles, any message that hides the Good News that God is Sovereign is supporting idolatry. Elevation of the gift above the Giver. Broken down to the root, prosperity gospel seizes opportunities to make money, not transform lives. God saves us because we cannot live our best life now.

Who or what has your emotional attention?

What will happen if you challenge the lie and ask God for the purpose of your day? Don’t be afraid to stand firm and overcome the trial of people-pleasing.

Psalm 90:12 “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. “
