🔴 Making Decisions God’s Way

Not long ago, I was presented with an investment opportunity that looked great on paper. People were gathering together in the spirit of building wealth, and as long as everyone contributed to the greater mission, we would all win. That was the claim, anyway. It seemed incredible, almost too good to be true.

And it was. And I almost fell for it.

At the outset, everything looked legit. A trusted individual invited me to discuss the details, and I presented the proposal to my husband. We were budding investors, but we did our research and felt ready to move forward.

Until we prayed about it.

That was when we got a distinct feeling that something was wrong.

Without knowing exactly why, my husband and I decided to back out of the venture, only to discover later that things weren’t what they seemed. That is why you must invite God to help you make decisions, especially major ones.

2020 has been a year full of significant decisions for people around the world. Parents had to decide if and when to send their children to school during a pandemic. Hurting families made tough sacrifices when faced with job losses or rising medical costs. And the United States has faced one of the most contentious political elections of our generation.

How do we, as Christians, make wise choices during so much chaos?

The Bible gives us several precise steps to take:

  1. Ask God for wisdom. James 1:5 tells us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” God isn’t some cold deity in the sky, watching and laughing at us as we struggle through life. He is deeply concerned about our needs and more than willing to supply the wisdom we need to make the right decisions. But first, we must ask Him for help.
  2. Seek advice from sources/people you can trust. It’s dangerous to make all of your most important decisions alone. God designed us to function in a community. Proverbs 11:14 says, “Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisers.” Just make sure your inner circle includes people who are mature, discreet, and willing to disagree with you when necessary.
  3. Let God’s peace lead you. Philippians 4:6-7 instructs us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” That is arguably the most critical step in making significant decisions. If you have sought wisdom from God and others and still don’t have peace, that is often a red flag. Either your lack of peace is being caused by your fear (which needs to be cast out), or it’s a warning from God about your decision.

Are you facing a significant decision in your life right now? If so, take some quiet time to follow the steps listed above. Whether you look to the right or the left, I can promise you’ll hear the Lord telling you which way to go. You just need to listen.

🔴 In Alignment With God

Colossians 3:23NLT  “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. “

God’s approval should be our main objective and goal. When we seek His best way, pray, and ask Him to lead us to accomplish a task, we can be sure of the best outcome.

I had the privilege of doing a task for a dear friend in a very brief amount of time. Our friendship goes deep and has grown even more profoundly over the years. Some might call us the “ride and die” country girls’ duo! We both know what it is like to have and to have not.

Growing up poor but so rich in God’s Word, family, church, and community love. We both love to give, and we both love to bless others with what God has blessed us. Our extreme delight is to participate in growing and prospering and sharing our God-given pearls of wisdom and resources.

It’s naturally easy for us because we learned in Psalm 24 that; “1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; 2for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.”

We both know that everything turns out for the good when we have gotten it right; even the weather is beautiful! In our growing up, we learned to love God and hate evil in every form and give Him the glory in and for all things.

“Light shines on the righteous and joy on the upright in heart.” Psalm 97:11

The Message:

Friends How Far Would You Go? This podcast originally aired on January 8, 2019. It serves as a reminder of how we can trust God for everything we do.Planning with God and checking in to be updated is WOW! Wisdom Over Woes! We can avoid possible hiccups if we check in with God. Eliezer was almost detained in bringing Rebekah back to Canaan. He had already given gifts of gold and silver. He was ready to leave the next day and return home. But Genesis 24:55-56 says, “But her brother and her mother said, “Let the girl stay with us a few days, say ten; afterward she may go.” He said to them, “Do not delay me since the Lord has prospered my way. Send me away that I may go to my master.”

As you listen to Friends How Far Would You Go? , I pray you will journal and keep your Bible close. As you react, think about what you are feeling and use the Bible concordance to look up that specific emotion. All relationships require effort. They need time, planning, and sacrifice. Whether it’s family, friends, or co-workers, we have to plan that time and what we gain or give to those friendships. If you think about your closest friends right now, what do you have in common? How did you meet? How did you bond? Think about your immediate relationships and the mirror effects they have in your life.

 ~Torrie

Scriptures in this episode:

Genesis 24:1-67

 Journal Prompts:

  1. What kind of friend am I?
  2. Can I follow through on impossible promises?
  3. Am I able to see beyond my feelings and give grace?
  4. Is God the focus of my heart and mind?

Anger & the Flames of Scarcity, The Podcast

www.ourgivenpurpose.com
Hello, People of Purpose!

This is Ruby’s second appearance on the podcast. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to her debut please check out The Lies Anger Told, The Podcast

Overview:

In today’s audio drama, we discuss scarcity, which is the belief in a limited supply of anything, food, water, money, resources. Scarcity extends to everything time, beauty, love, attention, rest, space, happiness, experiences, and connections. There is never enough, especially the want of provisions for the support of life. It is a failure, and it is a shortage, it is a deficit. Scarcity separates us and not only emits anger but is fueled by the question: is more for you, less for me?

 The Message:

In Anger and the Flames of Scarcity, the Audio Drama, Ruby shares a story riddled with the causes of her scarcity mindset. While she was a wealthy businesswoman, she suffered from isolation. Thus fueling her bitterness, and Ruby was unable to form healthy relationships with others. Ruby’s emotions manifested themselves physically as time passed, limiting her God-given purpose.

Devotional

We are presented with an example of improper behavior. Suspicion, gossip, fault-finding, and doubt have no room in our plans. Read Jeremiah 5:23-25 and let the Holy Word guide your thoughts.

The Topics:

Magan and I discuss her family, travels, and various responsibilities of being an entrepreneur for Christ. Magan’s English background, coupled with her love of God, created an opportunity for her to spread the Good News uniquely. By making God our priority, we can be led by Him to those who will guide us.

The Session:

As we continue to work through our anger, I pray we will become better equipped to act according to God’s intention. What do we need to look beyond? All of us are packaged creatively by our Lord, and that can serve as an opening for a conversation.
