Bible Study & Devotional Day 79

Guiding Scripture: Luke 4:1-12, Psalm 63:5

🔴 A Set Apart Servant

Are you living for God or to please humans?

So much in our world bends towards likability. If a person is popular, has a huge following, is wealthy, and attractive, she or he has power. We want to believe that person(s) will positively influence us and make us happy. Well, that’s only temporary. Our hearts will yearn for something more substantial, and our souls will crave the Word of God.

How do we begin or renew the process of being set apart?

Knowing the Words Jesus spoke to His adversary, the Devil, is a start. In Luke 4:4, Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’

When the enemy wants to tempt us to rebel against our Lord for temporary pleasure, we can stand firm. Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days without food or water. When he was at His ‘weakest,’ the enemy struck. What an incredible lesson for us to learn. If we feel signaled out or experience great despair within our role, we can:

  1. Pray to God for spiritual nourishment. Luke 4:4
  2. Praise God and worship Him in good and bad times. Luke 4:8
  3. Remember God’s promise and His command for us. Do not test Him. Luke 4:12

If you feel like the world is carrying you through some stuff, take a closer look at this passage.(Luke 4:1-12)

  1. The Devil, instead of bringing food, commanded that Jesus turn stones into bread.
  2. The enemy will partner with you only if he can benefit from it.
  3. The adversary will take from you rather than give to you.
  4. He will put you in harm’s way physically, mentally, and spiritually.
  5. Satan’s timing is deceptive, which creates laziness as we “wait” for things to work themselves out.

Ephesians 5:15NIV, Be very careful, then, how you live–not as unwise but as wise.

Our wisdom comes from the Lord. If we claim to be His disciples, we are expected to be obedient. Yahweh hears the cries of those who are crumbling under the pressure of Satan’s worldly standards. Trying to please every human in every situation is exhausting. Heed the call of the Lord and let Him order your steps. No matter how hungry, unappreciated, or under-valued you may feel, remember Christ endured unimaginable pain and anguish so that you would have the right to be called His children.

We choose how to appreciate the price Christ paid on the cross.

Exodus 23:13NLT “Pay close attention to all my instructions. You must not call on the name of any other gods. Do not even speak their names.”

We are not to worship the idols of this world- fame, fortune, or celebrity status. Bowing down to lesser gods will defile our Christian testimony. Walk and live in the commandment of Christ: to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and love your neighbor as yourself.

God loves you! He loves us!

He will minister to our every need! We possess a powerful treasure within His kingdom, and it is something the adversary wants to kill, steal, and destroy. Guard your investment and increase the gift God has given you.

🔴 The Winking Eye

Guiding Scripture: Proverbs 10:10 Whoever winks maliciously causes grief, and a chattering fool comes to ruin.
Additional Scriptures Psalm 35:19, Proverbs 16:30, Proverbs 6:13

Words to Ponder

  • Insight- the potential to gain an accurate and deep intuitive understanding of a person or thing.
  • Discretion-the quality of behaving or speaking in such a way as to avoid causing offense or revealing private information.
  • Knowledge-the ability to achieve a proper and deep intuitive understanding of a person or thing.

Poetry

Those closest to me know I like poetry, especially Edgar Allen Poe. Wait, don’t stop reading! It was Tell-Tale Heart that first grasped my attention and had me sitting on the edge of my chair as I listened to my 5th-grade teacher speak in a haunting tone. At that moment, mystery, suspense, and intrigue gripped me in a most incredible sensory overload. And then it was over. It started with the vexing of an eye and ended with a beating heart.

Proverbs 10:10, “Whoever winks maliciously causes grief, and a chattering fool comes to ruin.”

Knowledge

The Word of God gives us wisdom; a malicious wink of the eye has an evil intent that causes trouble. It is an arrogant display of someone who thinks himself wise. That small demonstration through involuntary action is a secret signal to others that something else will happen.

When you are vexed by your actions and cannot cry out to God, ask yourself: Who is in my eye?

In Mark 6:1-6, we read as the countrymen are both astonished and offended by Jesus. Their unbelief vexed our Savior, and He worked few miracles. They did not want to trust what their eyes saw happening nor what their ears witnessed. While under the guidance of Jesus, the disciples were sent out two by two. They preached and had the power to perform miracles. (Mark 6:7-13)

Have you ever struggled like King David between grace and corruption? He presents an example of how to lament to God in Psalm 39:1-13.
The belief that David was deathly ill and sin caused his affliction kept him silent. We often keep quiet when confession would free us from the chains of pride, arrogance, and self-pity.

Remember, life is fragile, and the Bible describes its brevity in contrast to eternity. We have only moments to fulfill our purpose within God’s plan. How will you spend your time? Will you be vexed by the unfaithful or shaking off the dust and moving to receptive hearts? Your time is a precious commodity.

Weekly News, Vol 16

Hello Purposeful Family!

It has been an amazing week. I embraced failure and learned a great lesson, met awesome people of purpose, and fell in love with God even more. As I walk by faith through each task, I continue to find new ways to enjoy God’s presence.

Nothing is done by accident, it is all for God’s greater plan and purpose. I pray each of you will take a few moments to reflect on how important you are. Your life has meaning and your words have power. Use both wisely! Be obedient and go get that wisdom!

Intro to Purpose 101

Hello Purposeful Family!!!

I am so excited to introduce you all to Caleb Slaughter. As the first of many interviews to come I pray you all will enjoy this brief glimpse into his life. Caleb shares what I’m sure many Christians have experienced as they entered college. The struggle to maintain the testimony each day is what we all are up against.

~Torrie

Slaughter it by Caleb Michael, LLC was birthed by Caleb’s desire to fuse his passion for Christ within the wardrobe he wore. As a powerlifter and a group leader for the Chi Alpha campus ministries, Caleb saw a need to bridge the gap between his everyday life and overall purpose. That need inspired Caleb to launch SlaughterIt by Caleb Michael, LLC. He wants everyone to “slaughter it”. Whatever your passion may be, do it all to the glory of God with intention and expectant success.
