Guiding Scripture: Romans 16:1-2, ‘I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea, that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and assist her in whatever business she has need of you; for indeed she has been a helper of many and of myself also.’
Christian Interaction
written by: Torrie Slaughter
As the Apostle Paul concludes his letter to the church at Rome, he makes recommendations. He introduces several women and men with the expectation that the church will welcome them in a way worthy of Christian love.
What an excellent viewpoint?
Paul’s first-hand experience with these outstanding servants of Christ enhanced their credentials. Many of those traveling with Paul made sacrifices and worked hard to spread the message of the Gospel. They were trusted individuals who faithfully completed their tasks.
The Darkside
I could point out the many times we as Christ-followers do not exhibit this type of gracious love. Or how some churches do not value those God sends to help spread the Good News of Jesus. However, like Paul, I want to encourage you to change your perspective.
Reflect Light
Welcome the strangers in your midst and recommend the dedicated servants to other places so that their work goes smoothly. We need not create jealousy, tension, or division while interacting with one another. Be a blessing and work in a manner worthy of the saints.
Need A Boost?
Our Most High living God goes before us. He answers prayer and sends us individuals to help us in our work. If you haven’t acknowledged the incredible family, friends, and co-workers in faith, send them a letter of gratitude. It is in our reactions that we make significant changes to our social environments.
Prayer: Lord, please keep us safe while we contribute our talents and gifts that come from You. Please help us to maintain joyful hearts and enter into new areas with refreshed spirits. May we all carry Your peace and show ourselves worthy of being called your servants. Amen
