Hello People of Purpose!

As the Lord stretches me and gives me wisdom I am excited to share more of what He lies on my heart. I feel unworthy at times to share His holiness but I remember His grace and will not dwell on my past mistakes. I have been forgiven because I sincerely repented, asked, and prayed. I have apologized to those I wronged and even those who believed I wronged them in some way. Humbling myself before God is one true way to not be humiliated by man. I let go of the stubbornness and learned to take my foolish mindset to God because He is the only One I trust to guide my thoughts and actions.

Going into the next calendar year the format of this podcast, and even Our Given Purpose the YouTube channel will change. What we think, eat, wear; the places we go to the people we meet all have a purpose and it is part of Yahweh’s ultimate plan. Because we are human we are tempted by the enemy and will be used in his schemes but we don’t have to worry. God knows we will stumble but with Him, we will not fall.

What does the Bible say about clothing? (These are just a few passages.)

Deuteronomy 8:4 “Your clothing did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years.”

Nehemiah 9:21 “Indeed, forty years You provided for them in the wilderness and they were not in want; their clothes did not wear out, nor did their feet swell.

Matthew 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

John 10:12 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and to destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

There is a lot to unpack in these verses and if this will cause you confusion, please stop this podcast and read these passages in their entirety. It is not in my spirit to take the Lord’s Word out of context or to mold it to mean something other than what is intended. However, my goal is to give an example of how we can apply God’s word to our lives. We are to display self-control in all deeds which would include shopping habits.

Deuteronomy 8:4 and Nehemiah 9:21 speaks of the Lord’s covering of the Israelites as they were in the wilderness for 40 years. They doubted God. They complained and even desired to go back to Pharaoh because they missed their pots of meat. They forgot about the hard work, the enslavement, not being able to freely worship their God and focused on food.

Matthew 7:15 and John 10:12 point to idols and false prophets. The people or things that cause anger, loss of self-control, foolish acts. In these four passages, I would like to frame our discussion on clothing… what we put on our bodies.

How do we allow God to provide?

How will we let Him cloth us more sufficiently?

Adam and Eve are an example of this, Genesis 3: 7, “Then the eyes of both were opened and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.” Adam and Eve covered and hid from God. God ultimately banished them from the garden of Eden but our Lord provided. Genesis 3:21, “The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.”

Even when we sin and make bad decisions listening to the enemy or false prophets; giving in to the temptation; the Lord provides. His ways are always higher.

If you were to need help getting out of a financial rut because of overspending on clothes…would the person or people who persuaded you to purchase it be there to bail you out? Who will you turn to when the credit card debt is mounting or the piles of clothes has become a dumping ground for more clothes and there isn’t enough room for you and them. Each decision we make we have to think it through. What purpose will it serve? Going back to John the enemy kills steals and destroys he will watch you destroy your credit, your relationships, your home, and even your self-esteem because he wants you to believe there is something you need to have outside of a relationship with God. This is the same God who provided for Adam and Eve, for the Israelites in the wilderness, and warns us of our on ravenous appetites for more stuff. This God our Lord and Savior will provide all we need if we are willing to follow his commands and come humbly before him with our sincere repentance. He will forgive and help us through our disasters all we must do is ask, pray and wait.

Thank you all for tuning in and I pray this will prompt you to read through the Bible passages I mentioned. As I always I urge you to seek your own relationship with God and pray fervently to our Creator. Please tune in to the Our Given Purpose YouTube channel on Friday for follow-up discussion and a brief lesson on how to downsize your closet.

  1. Excellent writing and I’ve already taken it to action by first deciding that enough is enough. I’ve come to terms with the fifteen years of history that contributed to some of what I have called retail therapy to compensate for a dear loss and I have decided to no longer use as an excuse the affordablity of my many therapeutic retail sessions. So grateful so excited to start a new journey that I feel will be more meaningful and satisfying. I’ll share more later. Love agape, Mom
