Guiding Scripture: Mark 10:51-52 51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. 52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately, he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
Walk By Faith
by Melinda Douglass
God’s word tells us that we must have faith in him, and if we have faith, he will give us the desires of our hearts. In Mark 10:51, we see the evidence of faith through the restoration of Bartimaeus’ sight. Like Bartimaeus, many of us know the promises of God, but as people, we still struggle with faith because of our own trust issues, our desires to want to be in control, and because we don’t know the outcome if we take that step.
Think about a time you took a step of faith (in work, business, personal life) that proved to be fruitful.
- What was your step of faith? What did you do?
- Why did you do it?
- What was the outcome?
In most examples, you took the step of faith because you anticipated the immediate reward. You may have put in overtime. After all, you knew you were getting more money or that promotion, worked out twice a day because you knew you would lose weight or gain muscle.
We act based on known outcomes, but God’s reward for us is greater than the known outcomes we have for ourselves.
Here are four steps you can take to strengthen your faith:
- Trust and Rely on God: God has promised to work everything out for good (Romans 8:28).
- Reading his Word. The Bible is our tool to remind us of God’s promises and to encourage us
- Pray for Strength. Pray on the areas that prevent you from walking into faith and ask God to help you overcome them.
- Be Obedient. When God speaks, be obedient.
Remember that although direction may come without explanation, we walk by faith not because of who we are but who God is.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for giving us your son Jesus so that I may have eternal life through him. Lord, I pray for you to strengthen my faith, as my heart desires to fulfill the purpose you have for me. I pray that you remove the things in me that are not of you and replace them with courage so that I may walk the path you have for me. Lord, as I step out in faith, I pray for clarity in your instruction to make my path clear. In Jesus’s Name, Amen.
