Jesus felt his power come out of him! In a crowd full of people, he felt the touch of one person through her faith. Through the persistence of one woman, he lost power.
I can’t imagine all the mental, physical, spiritual suffering and fatigue this lady went through. Years of not knowing how long she may live and possibly being anemic, which decreased her ability to work. While being ostracized by her family, friends and community. If a great amount of power came out of Jesus, God on earth, then a lot of anguish preceded it.
This is the first time in Jesus’ ministry that he felt power leave. With all the healing and casting out demons, we never get the same rhetoric as losing power.
Prior to this woman’s story, we see Jairus, a synagogue leader, plead for Jesus to heal his daughter. As he goes through the crowd his daughter dies, but Jesus goes on to heal her and bring her back to life. Jesus simultaneously rebuked the sickness while restoring her life.
What kind of God can do that type of miracle?
What I’ve learned through both stories is that God’s power is infinite. Jesus lost power from one person and soon after brought another back to life. Hallelujah!
How many times have you been scared to ask God for one more miracle?
There have been times that I have been ignorant of God’s divinity that I allowed too much time to pass before my “next ask”. I know you healed me over here, so I’ll wait to ask you for another miracle. All the while God is saying:
Where is your faith? Where is your knowledge of me? Don’t you see?
Not too long after God delivered me from alcoholism, I got food poisoning for the second time. The first time I had it, my body shook for 8 hours straight. It was trying to rid itself from the foreigner within. I almost passed out the following morning and it took about a week to recover from it.
The second time around, I felt my body start to shake as it did before, and I began to pray. I started asking God for perseverance for the night and all of a sudden God said to me, “Why are you asking for perseverance when I can deliver you?” I said, “I don’t know why I’m asking for perseverance.” Then I asked God to deliver me from the poison in my body, the shakes, the tiredness…everything.
As I walked up to my room and got into the bed, my body stopped shaking. I started crying and thanking God for his power. Whatever attacked my body left. I realized that I could continue to ask God for anything. I didn’t need to build up points with God, I just had to ask. I didn’t have to wait in between miracles, I could keep on asking because God has enough power.
Will you believe God for who he is, what he says and what he’s already done?
It’s hard to trust in a God that has allowed you to suffer many things, but by your faith you can be healed. Gain faith and be delivered today because TOMORROW IS TOO LATE TO BE GREAT.
