In God's Strength
Contributing Writer: Robin Lambert
When you are exhausted from trying to be stronger than you feel, follow Jesus’ example. Oh, how great the temptation to despair. Your soul becomes depressed and disheartened. Your faith staggers under the relentless continual trials that come into your life. You cry, “I cannot take this any longer. Why has God allowed this?”
He tells you not to lose hope, but what are you supposed to do when you are at this point? What did Jesus do in the Garden of Gethsemane?
(Matthew 26:36-39)
Jesus, the omnipotent Son of God poured out His heart to His Father in prayer. He expressed His humanity. Even when Jesus’ disciples were asked to keep watch with Him but were found sleeping, Jesus continued to pour out His heart to His Father. Pleading with the only One Who could save Him from His agony. In the end, Jesus submitted to the will of the Father knowing God’s plan was perfect, necessary and would bring glory to God.
So what are you to do when you feel weak physically, emotionally and spiritually?
Nothing!
Cease from trying and doing in your own strength. In your weakness, climb up into the lap of your Father and say, “I am too weak to even hold onto You. You have to hold onto me.” As you lay in your Father’s arms, He will tell you “Be still, and know that I am God.” He can handle all of life’s issues! Even when you come to the point of physical exhaustion, you are too tired to read your Bible or even too weary to pray. Sit still, submit and trust God.
Your weakness will keep you dependent on a big God and His unending grace. He will sustain you and bring you through the trials of life. Every time you bow your head in acceptance to the will of the God, you embrace the cross and manifest to the world the heart of Christ Who bowed His head to the will of the Father.
God’s plan for you is perfect, necessary and will bring glory to God.
