What We Deserve
written By: Torrie Slaughter
If you ask Finance Advisor Dave Ramsey, “how are you today?” He responds, “Better than I deserve.”
Interestingly it is a very Biblical response. Matthew 20:14-15 Jesus’ parables about the Kingdom of heaven repeatedly uses everyday situations to help us understand. Heaven is not like this world. It isn’t every human out for themselves. We will receive more than we deserve for the work we have completed no matter the length of time we’ve committed to it.
Jesus further stipulates that we are not to lord over one another. He came to serve, which is the definition of greatness within the Kingdom. (Matthew 20:25-28)
Christ gave His life as a ransom for all who believe in Him.
Psalm 25 keeps us looking toward the achievement of purposing toward the Kingdom. I thank God for His words and the healing hope we receive. I think about the many arguments, conflicts, and temporary setbacks we encounter, and I am amazed at our Lord’s patience.
Points to Ponder:
- What needs to be removed or released for us to fulfill our God-given purpose?
- Who do we need to un-follow so we’re not tempted by jealousy, envy, or rage?
- Is our heart open to learning, or are we focused on adding more filth to an unsavory situation?
Exercising Faith
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
James 2:18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
Romans 3:20 For by works of the law, no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
1 Corinthians 6:12 “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be enslaved by anything.”
