Wow, this timely reading is an incredible lesson to receive from our Lord! The story of Jacob returning home with fear in his heart (Gen. 32:7).
My God shot is the unbelievably current state the living word of God presents. I’ve received email warnings and social media messages notifying of more disturbances and disruptions because of weather, disease, and politics. Life as we know it or just came to consider normal is fading away. But God!
Jesus says in Matthew 10:28, “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
In the state of ‘now,’ we can be prepared. Jesus equips us His disciples by teaching us:
- We will be called demons and worse names. (Matt. 10:25) “It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!”
- To not be afraid of threats. (Matt.10:26) “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.”
- The truth will uncover secrets, and light will shine in the darkness. (Matt. 10:27) “What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.”
- When we are tortured to fear God, call on His name to save our soul. (Matt. 10:28)” Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
While it may seem unrealistic to prepare to endure the sorrows of this fallen world, I believe it is necessary to the Christ-driven commission.
Hate protects no one,
but the love-blood of Jesus covers God’s His sons and daughters. We are responsible for the behaviors our impulsive thoughts carry us to; I pray we will teach our thoughts to obey Christ. Our Redeemer has warned us of coming pestilences; my hope is we humble ourselves before our Lord and strive to be in a right relationship with Him.
Prayer: Father I trust in your unfailing love, you have been so good to me. Even in this world that vacillates between love and hatred, joy and sadness you are my constant peace and I will sing praise to you heavenly father. Amen.
