Unbinding Your Potential: Lessons from Taking off Grave Clothes

By Torrie Slaughter

Have you ever felt like you are living with grave clothes on? Like there’s something holding you back from reaching your full potential in Christ? Today, we will discuss how God wants to unbind you from anything that is hindering your growth in Him.

In the book of John chapter 11, we see the story of Lazarus being raised from the dead. When Jesus arrived at the tomb, He commanded that the stone be removed from the entrance, and then He cried out, “Lazarus, come out!”

What happened next is remarkable. Lazarus emerged from the tomb, still wrapped in his grave clothes.

Jesus commanded those around him to “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”

This story reminds us that just like Lazarus, we too can be set free from anything that is holding us back. Perhaps it’s fear, doubt, past mistakes or failures. We can come to Jesus and ask Him to unbind us from these things, and He will.

The Bible tells us in Isaiah 61:1-3 that Jesus came to set the captives free, to give us beauty for ashes and joy for mourning. We don’t have to live in bondage to our past or present circumstances. God has the power to break the chains and set us free.

Remember, God wants to unbind you from anything that is hindering your growth in Him. Come to Him with a willing heart, and let Him set you free to live out your full potential in Christ.
