Intro to Jesus
by founding writer Torrie Slaughter
John chapter 1 describes the Word (Jesus) as being with God in the beginning and being God. It also introduces John the Baptist and his testimony about Jesus. Throughout the chapter, various individuals encounter Jesus and become his disciples, including Andrew, Peter, and Philip. The chapter concludes by stating that no one has ever seen God, but Jesus, the Word made flesh, has revealed him to us.
John 1 is a powerful chapter that teaches us about the relationship between God and Jesus.
Through this chapter, we can understand how God reveals himself to us through Jesus and the impact this revelation has on our lives.
The first verse of John 1 states, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” This verse tells us that Jesus, the Word, was not just a mere human, but was divine, existing in the beginning with God.
As we continue reading, we see John the Baptist testify to Jesus’ divinity, calling him the “Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). The people who encountered Jesus were astounded by his wisdom, and many became his followers.
Through Jesus, we can see God’s love and grace.
We learn about his compassion for the lost and his willingness to forgive even the most heinous sins. Jesus’ teachings show us how to love and serve others, and his sacrifice on the cross shows us how much God loves us.
In John 1:18, we read that “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.” Jesus, through his life and teachings, revealed God to us in a way that we can understand and relate to.
Through Jesus, we have access to God and can experience a personal relationship with him.
We can pray to him, seek his guidance, and feel his presence in our lives. We can also experience the Holy Spirit, who helps us to understand the Bible and guides us in our daily lives.
John 1 teaches us that God reveals himself to us through Jesus. Through his teachings and sacrifice, we can understand God’s love and grace and develop a personal relationship with him. We must strive to follow Jesus’ example and teachings and seek God’s guidance in our lives.
Prayer: Lord, please help us to sing of your love and justice and carefully lead godly lives. Father be with us as we conduct business, speak to friends, and stand as witnesses of your mercy. Strengthen our resolve to live Holy set apart lives to glorify you. Amen.
