A Daily Purpose (Day 12)

Honor & Blessings

By Contributing writer Lindsey Capron

Contrary to popular belief, God’s word has plenty to say about money and finances. Whether you’re an employee or employer, God’s word and principles regarding financial stewardship will always apply, whether in an economic boom or bust.

It’s no secret that we’re facing economic instability today. Many are scrambling frantically, searching for ways to survive while making ends meet financially. The thought of giving or spending outside of what most may consider necessary in any regard is considered “irrational” or “irresponsible”.

In Proverbs 3:9-10, God gives an eternal command that has been the secret to ensuring financial health in season and out.

“Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10 NLT

God promises that we will never go hungry with His grain and have plenty for us and others with overflowing wine IF and ONLY IF we honor Him first with the wealth and income we receive. Contextually, this means giving our monetary resources from our jobs, gifts, or any money we receive.

To receive this blessing, honoring the LORD means giving God our first and best. Not the crumbs or even leftovers after we have satisfied ourselves in necessity or desire. It’s putting God first because our heart desires to please Him and trust in Him.

Keep in mind that God doesn’t need our money.

He’s never in need because He’s the source and supplier of all things and our every need (Philippians 4:19). All riches come from Him. However, what He does desire is our heart and complete trust, which reveals if we honor Him when it comes to giving.

Maybe you’re experiencing a long month with short money, and the thought of giving your money to God makes you cringe or clutch your wallet a little tighter. You want to save the best of what you made for yourself. After all, you’ve worked hard for it and earned it, right?

Honor God with your finances anyway.

He’s capable of doing so much more with our money than we can. Our God multiplies, taking what you give and blessing it ten times over. He’s the same God that fed 5000 with two fish and five loaves of bread (Matt. 14:19, Luke 9:16)

In God’s economy, when you honor God with your best, He’ll send and bless you with the very best. The honor comes from the heart, which displays deep regard and adoration for the one receiving it. It’s not the gift He wants but the spirit it’s given under.

You no longer have to scramble and search for solutions to survive in these financially trying times. Honor God and watch Him multiply your blessings abundantly.
