Am I Wasting Time?

Contributing Writer: Broderick Slaughter

Solomon continues sharing his wisdom; in Proverbs 14: 7-8. These verses state that we should “stay away from fools, for you won’t find knowledge on their lips.” The prudent understand where they are going, but fools deceive themselves.

At the beginning of the collection of Proverbs, Solomon tells us that in this book, we are trying to teach people wisdom and discipline to help them understand the insights of the wise (Proverbs 1:2). In these passages, Solomon tells us that the knowledge we need comes from the word and not the world, and if anybody is trying to feed you, the scraps of the worldly and not the bread of life are fools. We need to move away from people who are not providing for our souls- away from those not walking the same path. However, we cannot close our eyes to the wanderers or the lost.

God wants all His people to share the gospel, unlock the wonders of knowing Jesus as their Savior, and allow God into their hearts. But listening to the world’s fools will hinder your purpose for the kingdom.

Romans 5:8 says, “God will show His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”

That passage connects with how God’s love unites His children. Our obedience isn’t about what we get but how much we give. Living a godly life directs us to share our talents, embrace and love our neighbors.

Matthew 7:6 reminds us that we shouldn’t waste what is holy on unholy people. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you. Now God isn’t saying we shouldn’t share His Word but to trust Him while you are speaking. If you spend time arguing with one stubborn person, you can miss the opportunity to be a blessing to somebody that needs to hear it. We can be doers of God’s Word through our actions because they speak.

Dear friend, your time is well spent when you trust God’s plan, believe in His Holy supernatural power, and grow in wisdom. You will never tire of doing what is good and pleasing because you will store your treasures in Heaven.
