Guiding Scripture: Psalm 143:1-2, “Lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy; in your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief. 2 Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you.”

Cross Reference: Psalm 71:2, “In Your justice, rescue and deliver me; incline Your ear and save me.”

1 Corinthians 4:4, “My conscience is clear, but that does not vindicate me. It is the Lord who judges me.”

Have you ever wondered if God hears your prayer? Perhaps the situation seemed so overwhelming that cries were crying. It is an excruciating feeling that comes with uncertainty and a new level of fear. 

I believe that is what King David experienced. His enemies caused great mental anguish and threatened the life God promised he would have. Add to that; King David recognized his role in his circumstance.

Integrity

King David’s plea for help came with acknowledging his shortcomings. 

His character amid his terrifying encounters with enemies led him to be honest. While David was not perfect, he had integrity which is the practice of being honest and showing an uncompromising adherence to the truthfulness of one’s actions.

Because God is gracious, we can display these same characteristics no matter what we go through. By showing respect to people we work with, owning up to our mistakes, and delivering on our responsibilities, we can shine the light of Jesus.

Like David, we can connect our present crisis to God’s mercy toward us. We would not be here if not for the providence of our Lord. Even when we fear our enemies or walk-in discouragement, we can remember we are open to God’s judgment. I pray we can all address the things between God and us before describing our crisis.

It brings God glory when we strive to exemplify His truthfulness, grace, patience, and love. Let us thank God for Jesus today and be transformed by renewing our minds.

Prayer: Lord, I need you to help me acknowledge my shortfalls. I stand before you with my sin and shame, yet you are gracious to forgive. No matter the lessons I need to learn from my current circumstances, please help me mature. I confess to you, Abba Father. Amen
