Guiding Scripture: 1 Peter 2:11 (AMP)  ‘Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers [in this world] to abstain from the sensual urges [those dishonorable desires] that wage war against the soul.

Aliens

written by: Torrie Slaughter

Lisa, my childhood best friend, has the best parents. They are kind, generous and always make me feel welcomed. However, there was a slight catch; the dad, Mr.Lewis, rarely called me Torrie but ‘Alien.’ I can still recall his booming voice anytime I entered their home, Hey ‘A!’. It became a bit of a secret as to what the ‘A’ stood for, especially when we were in public. It took years for me to embrace the affectionate nickname. And today, it provides reassurance. I can see God’s providential hand working in my life from the beginning.

We are all aliens, foreigners, exiles living in this world because we are not yet in the promised eternity.

House Guest in the World

Christ Jesus came down from Heaven to show us how to live in this world. Jesus left the Holy Spirit to help guide us into truth and understanding. Through His incredible sacrifice, Jesus our Savior showed us how to act as a guest. He is the perfect model! We are to remember who we are in Christ and the spiritual attitude we should embody at all times.

Future

If we set our minds on things above and not on earthly matters, we can confidently say, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me” (Matthew 16:23). Our citizenship is in Heaven, and while we wait here, our focus is the healthy destiny our God wants us to experience.

Prayer: Father, please help us to have healthy appetites and seek your goodness. We want to honor and glorify you with our hearts, minds, and habits. Strengthen our resolve to declare even to our friends when they exhibit evil behavior. Your word tells us in Matthew 16:23 that Christ spoke to the demonic spirit that used Peter. Lord, please reveal the schemes of the adversary that we may boldly stand against that which is wicked. In Jesus Name, we pray, Amen.
