One of the resources I use when studying the Bible is Faithlife. It is a branch of the LOGOS Bible software and the plugin that allows you to view scripture on my website. As we begin reading the first letter from the apostle Peter, I thought about being chosen or called to serve. Peter refers to these brothers and sisters as obedient. Wow! I can get wrapped up in the smallness of humanity and lose sight of God’s massive plan.
Today I am sharing a portion of Melcan Signe’s sermon along with notes from biblia.com I pray you will find this resource helpful as you meditate on God’s Word.
Predestined -The Greek word used here, proorizō, means “to choose” or “to decide beforehand.”
(* Source biblia.com) Paul uses the verb proorizō five times in his letters (Rom 8:29–30; 1 Corinthians 2:7; Ephesians 1:5, 11). In every instance, God is the one who predestines; salvation as an overall plan depends on His will and authority. In Paul’s time, many people believed that various supernatural forces controlled human destiny. Some used magic, thinking they could manipulate these forces to escape harm and secure good fortune ( Acts 8:9–25; 19:11–20).
(Source *Melcan Signe) In this letter, Paul addresses the need for people to stand firm in the Lord against all other forces (Ephesians 6:10–20). Paul wants believers to understand that salvation results from God’s purposes independent of time, hostile forces, and personal achievement. Believers should not worry about spiritual powers and authorities, nor should they take credit for being chosen by God; instead, they should recognize God’s mercy and give Him praise.

Prayer: Father, open my eyes to see You and delight in your statures. I want to understand your ways and meditate on your wonderful deeds. Father, I choose you and the way of faithfulness. Please set my heart on your will for my life. Amen
