Guiding Scripture: Proverbs 25:28, Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.
Open Season
By contributing writer Kendra Dublin
I wonder what happened to this city. At one point, it was thriving. For any city to be built, it needs leadership and trading systems to keep it going. Consequently, it needs an army and a wall for a line of defense to continue working properly.
At some point, it had to be infiltrated by spies, corrupt leaders, or larger cities wanting to expand. Either way, this city was subject to falling, and it did.
And with no protection, how can it stand and flourish again?
Our minds work the same way. When we leave it in ruins, outside sources can easily control it. You can live as you please, talk as you please, sin as you please because no leader is taking back the reins.
Why would we want to live like this?
As followers of Christ, we must combat our desires with the Holy Spirit, but if we don’t submit to the Holy Spirit, we can easily be broken into. Once the raid comes, we are open to whatever may come our way. After a while, we let evil spirits influence us as we continue to live without wisdom.
Our walls are the Holy Spirit. The system that keeps us moving in God is the Word. This means we can’t neglect the Word in our pursuit of protection, honor, and putting off our flesh daily.
God is calling us to live controlled because work must be done. It also doesn’t serve the cause of Christ when his people can’t influence the world. Our influence comes from our submission, not our chaos. We have to be diligent in our walk with Christ, so we are a stronghold for Christ through the Holy Spirit.
Is it open season for you?
If it has been, lean on God so he can build you up again. Go ahead and lean on God today because TOMORROW IS TOO LATE TO BE GREAT.
