Guiding Scripture: Ephesians 6:7, ‘Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.’

A Responsible Christ-Follower (continued)

As the Apostle Paul concludes his letter to the Ephesian church, the instructions are clear.

  1. Be obedient and kind towards one another.
  2. Serve God alone and prepare for enemies.
  3. God is our protection and provides us with spiritual armor.
  4. Pray without ceasing.

We have strong references to King Hezekiah from 2 Chronicles 31:21. In everything he undertook, he sought God and worked wholeheartedly, and prospered. Hezekiah destroyed idols and organized the priests to restore corporate worship.

The mind of Christ was not divided, and we should not waver in loyalty but stand firm. So Paul advised the Ephesians to embrace the likeness of Jesus by submitting to God’s will. By recognizing the enemies of our souls, everyone can obey, fight, and win because of God’s armor (Ephesians 6:10).

Posture

It begins with our attitude—a mentality to work for the Lord rather than for people. Colossians 3:23 echos that very thought, and Paul tells us to work willingly at whatever we do. As our responsibilities increase and our duties become more evident, our Heavenly Father equips us with knowledge.

How do we work willingly for the Lord rather than for people?

  • By enthusiastically seeking God’s will
  • Practicing obedience
  • Becoming kinder
  • Prioritizing love
  • Memorizing and applying scripture
  • Understanding who the enemy is and why he wants to destroy relationships.

We can come against the principalities because God gives us the armor, and we have victory in Christ. By starting with His command to love, we can successfully endure the battles.

Prayer: Dear Lord, may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, “God is great!” (Psalm 70:4)  Amen.
