Guiding Scripture: Galatians 5:13 ‘You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.’
Selfless Incentive
written by: Torrie Slaughter
As Paul continues his letter to the Galatian church, we glean helpful instruction. For many of us, love seems simple, but it is a pearl of complex wisdom that we grow in as we seek Jesus.
Scripture tells us not to worship idols or other gods (Exodus 20:5). Our freedom in Christ is an opportunity to testify to His greatness and mercy. Yes, it is a privilege to serve at the Master’s command, but just as Jesus humbled Himself and washed the feet of His known enemies, we should exercise that exact obedience.
Galatians 5:16 guides us to seek the Holy Spirit; the Comforter Jesus Christ promised to leave until His return. It is in the Spirit that we will resist the cravings of our flesh. We can hunger and thirst for righteousness while remaining in God.
The Journey
In our daily walk, we have the power to influence others through interactions, choices, and decisions. We should resist the fleshly desire to assert our authority or bend people into submission. That mentality conflicts with the Holy Spirit. Pride is greedy, as are personal preferences. Take heed to walk like Christ and deny selfish behaviors.
Prayer: Lord, make our fleshly desires obvious. We want to walk in Your precepts and inherit Your kingdom. Please help us sow gentleness, love, joy, peace, and kindness into every area of our lives. Amen
