Wealth Building God’s Way
written by: Torrie Slaughter
The Bible warns us that pursuing wealth as a foundation of joy is meaningless. One will never be satisfied. So is it possible to be rich and be a Christ-follower? Yes!
Wealth for Others (Luke 10:25-37)
In the story of the ‘Good Samaritan,’ the man is identified as wealthy. He was able to provide care for the victim and supply for his needs. While the Samaritan couldn’t completely stop all of his business affairs, he ensured the innkeeper that he would return and settle the debt.
Wealth for Training (Matthew 25:14-30)
As it pertains to this life, wealth is necessary, and being a good steward is essential. The parable of the talents is another example of building wealth in God’s way. We are not to fear money but utilize it to grow community, nurture people, and support ourselves.
Sacrificial Wealth (Mark 12:41-44)
In Mark 12, we read about a widow who gave from her poverty. She didn’t know who was watching but, through faith, gave her last.
If we use our wealth to contribute to the needs of others, give with joy, and seek opportunities to be unselfish, wealth becomes a godly characteristic.
Mercy Wealth
However, the most extraordinary story about wealth has nothing to do with money. But the great mercy of God our Father, sending Jesus His only begotten Son to die for our sins. A debt we can not repay or do anything that would measure that extreme sacrifice. Our Redeemer lives, and it would behoove us to remember that the currency in Heaven is love. While we are here, we can practice wisely spending in.
