Choices and Habits

Proverbs 23:1-3 (KJV), When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.
Proverbs 23:1-3 calls us to be mindful of the doors that open before us. Every opportunity is not a good opportunity. We must be cautious about the offers we receive. Like Daniel and the three Hebrew men, we must be spiritually sensitive and apply discernment in our interaction with those in authority.
Daniel 1:8 (KJV) says, “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.”
Proverbs 23:1-3 instructs us to apply self-control like Daniel. Being “given to much appetite” is gluttony, and gluttony is the sister of greed.
Are your choices driven by greed or God’s Word? Be sincere with yourself.
Will my current habits (eating, drinking, finances, etc.) make me vulnerable to making ungodly decisions?
Receive the grace to exercise self-control in the name of Jesus!
