Guiding Scripture: Ecclesiastes 1:9 ‘What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.’
Meaningless Vapor?
written by: Torrie Slaughter
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. (Proverbs 9:10) It is where we begin our journey to living a meaningful life by providing an example to the next generation. We have read about several people in God’s Word who followed His commands yet significantly suffered.
Is that encouragement to have hope in the wisdom of God?
YES!
As we pass through this earthly life, the things we do here are what lead to judgment. The ‘teacher’ of Ecclesiastes reminds us of life’s brevity. Death is the unavoidable conclusion everyone meets. So, what we do between our beginning and end is the constant tension.
We have a choice to follow the Lord or the folly of our ways.
God made all things, and there is nothing new we can create. When we submit to the wisdom of the Lord while understanding that we cannot fully comprehend all His glory, we have peace. The endless desire for comfort, wealth, success, and status will dim, and the reverential fear of God will rise.
Experiential
Wisdom to know the difference between meaningless temporary vapor and the real advantages of God’s eternal reward is a worthy path. Since the fall of man, our existence has vacillated between good and evil. Jesus, the Son of God, provides reconciliation with God the Father. Now, we can experience the lasting effects of God’s mercy, grace, love, and patience through sacrificial living.
Our life is not our own, as we belong to God (Jeremiah 10:23). There is nothing new under the sun because our great Lord created everything through His power. To believe we can out-do God is meaningless.
Prayer: Lord, please help us to proclaim Jesus Christ and His crucifixion. Let us demonstrate the Spirit and power that our faith rests. You are our God. We desire to please You because of the knowledge given by You, our Shepherd. We are in awe of Your majesty, and with fear, we humbly surrender to Your will. Amen
