Cry Out in Desperation
written by: Tiffiany Langston
I remember the feeling all too well—loneliness, depression, anxiety, discontentment, rejection, anger, fear. I was brokenhearted and distraught. Burnt out and confused. At the end of my rope. I felt like a complete failure. My earthly father had abandoned me, I was sexually abused during my entire adolescence, been neglected and betrayed by family and friends, my marriage was in the pits, my personal business wasn’t going well, I was having an extramarital affair, my children were struggling in school, and I was desperate for relief from the pains of life.
As I wrestled with the Holy Spirit about taking my life amongst the shouting of lies and deep darkness that surrounded me, a moment of stillness and the whisper from Truth got my attention. I had cried out to God in desperation before, but this time my heart was weary and broken, bringing me to the position of humbleness that He’d been after all along. I heard God louder in that moment than I ever had before in my entire life. He responded to my cry for help. Snatching me from my pit of self-pity, delivering me from my fears, and reminding me of the victory that is mine because of His Son!
Living ain’t easy, is it?! But, as the hymn goes ~ What a friend we have in Jesus. All our sins and griefs to bear. What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer. We can cry out in desperation to the one who gave his life so that we could have a life AND have it abundantly. No, we are not exempt from the trials and tribulations of this world. Struggles can come and seem to pile up till we are on our tiptoes trying to see above them all. Yet, we have a precious promise from the word of God in Psalm 34 that allows us to have hope, even amid all troubles.
Embrace the promises of Jesus to heal your broken heart and strengthen you. Live with expectancy for good, trusting God’s heart for His children. He knows you best and loves you most! He is faithful to deliver us from all our troubles. He’s got you covered! His banner over you is LOVE.
