“Fire on the Foundation”

Written by: Stephanie Bright

Foundations are what keep a structure upright. If appropriately laid, a structure can last for years. On the other hand, if the foundation is not laid correctly, infrastructural damage will be imminent, and the structure will eventually collapse.

In 1 Corinthians 3:10-16, we read of the importance of a solid foundation, which is Jesus Christ. When we lay a foundation in Him, allowing Him to be the most important and prominent part of our lives, we will see the benefits. If we try to lay a foundation and build a life on anything besides Him, we are setting ourselves up for failure.

There’s an old hymn that says:

“My hope is built on nothing less, Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness

I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ name

On Christ the solid rock I stand

All other ground is sinking sand.”

-My Hope is Built on Nothing Less

Christ is our solid rock. He is our firm foundation. Nothing else–not our money, titles, degrees, cars, houses, economic status, or political views will be a solid foundation like Jesus will be.

Do you know when the integrity of a building’s foundation is tested? When natural disasters come.

How well does the building uphold itself after a flood, fire, hurricane, or earthquake?

How well does that foundation stay together?

In the spiritual sense, the same happens with us, and we have scripture that proves that.

1 Corinthians 3:13 says,”each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.”

A Day will come when it will be evident how solid our foundation was.

Did we live our whole lives focusing on “securing the bag”?

Was every waking moment of our lives spent trying to get more money? Or did we choose Jesus every day of our lives?

The fire will give us our answer. What will we have to say for ourselves on that Judgment day? I pray that we can all stand before God and be confident in knowing that we laid our foundation in Him.

He is the ONLY solid rock.

He is steady, constant, and never fails.

Build a foundation in Him today.
