🔴Calm Down

Written by: Torrie Slaughter

Media makes us pay attention to the negative stuff. We watch death, destruction, and deceit on repeat, especially if our flesh craves it. Toxic, harmful reports deprive us of spiritual nourishment.

We live in an evil, fallen world. The only thing we can expect is the enemy to kill, steal, and destroy (that’s his one job).

How do we become like Christ and touch the diseased things?

By returning to Him and going into our secret places to pray and express sorrow for our sins. Confession loosens the grip this world has on our hearts. The strength of our foundation will be evident to the discerning.

Psalm 131:1 says, ‘My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.’

Trusting in God and having confidence in His ways means we pay attention to the tension. We can observe the issues and be determined to do our part. There will be situations that we will not understand. Although we have a sinful nature, many of us will never experience the depths of evil this world can drag us.

God’s love, mercy, and wrath are things I cannot fully comprehend. I am not divine nor all-knowing. I trust the wisdom God gives is enough for this day so that I can fully serve Him.

As you read, meditate on Proverbs 17:4: think about how often you speak of death, destruction, and discouragement in conversation. How will good fruit prosper if you’re constantly pulling at the new sprouts?

Prayer: Lord, please help me calmly seek your wisdom that I may speak life and encouragement to those who need it most. Let my words become a fresh water fountain to the dry arid places of those who thirst for Your righteousness. I know I cannot escape the evil, but you give me strength to endure if I abide in You. Lord, help me to remain calm and actively cooperate with your plan. Allow me to navigate the toxic mud and keep my focus on You. Amen
