 🔴 Life is Messy

Contributing Writer: Robin Lambert

Psalm 127:1-5

1 Unless the LORD builds a house,

They who build it labor in vain;

Unless the LORD guards a city,

The watchman stays awake in vain.

2  It is futile for you to rise up early,

To stay up late,

To eat the bread of painful labor;

This is how He gives to His beloved sleep.

3  Behold, children are a gift of the LORD,

The fruit of the womb is a reward.

4  Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,

So are the children of one’s youth.

5  Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;

They will not be ashamed

When they speak with their enemies in the gate.

Life sometimes hands you a mess. Life sometimes gives you flowers.

The unpredictability of it all is what makes life exciting and heartbreaking all at the same time. But most importantly, it reminds you to remain entirely dependent on the Lord. Without God, you can do nothing. An attitude of self-sufficiency will lead to your work feeling empty, frustrating, useless, and vain.

Whether you are starting a family or a new job, or a new ministry, don’t do it while excluding God. Whatever you attempt in life, commit it to God from the very beginning. Satan wants you miserable, exhausted, joyless, and overwhelmed. He wants you to forget that you need God to build your career, raise your family,  grow in your marriage, care for your aging parents or expand your ministry.

You weren’t designed to carry the weight of your messy life by yourself.

When you try to do things apart from God, you miss God’s blessing. You wear yourself out, and the things you do will not last.

You need to put God front and center in your life, learning to rest in His blessing and provision in your work and home. You can rest in God’s blessing because all you need comes from God. It doesn’t depend on you. It never did, and it never will.

  • Where is your life messy?

  • Where have you ignored the need for God in your life?

  • Are you seeing your life as dry, broken, and empty?

  • Are you trying to accomplish things in your strength?

Look to God and deepen your dependence on Him. This big God with His limitless resources is growing within your barren life a blooming flower in His infinite supply of grace.

He is blooming for all to see what God can do. He can take your messy life and grow it for His glory.
