🔴 The Bible is the IKEA Directions of Life

Contributing Writer: Christina Price

The dictionary defines instruction as “a direction or order” and “detailed information telling how something should be done.”

As I read the definition of the word “instruction,” the memory of a recent purchase from IKEA came to mind. And those who’ve purchased furniture from IKEA know that the instructions are vital for any piece of furniture purchased from that store. Am I right?

Something that would seem as straightforward as a chair or table would arrive in multiple boxes. It feels like endless nuts and bolts and a thick instruction booklet.

In the same context, I relate the Bible to the Ikea instructions of life.

The Bible is a compilation of 66 books. It is filled with a rich history of God’s action on the Earth, His creation, and His love for us. Accounts of God’s interactions with humans, their rebellion, the undertones of Jesus in the Old Testament. To his arrival, death, and resurrection in the New Testament. It’s also filled with God’s marvelous works on earth as He was in human form (through Jesus) and the building of His church.

With that history, the word of God remains alive! Sharper than a two-edged sword, and is applicable in any timeframe and all situations.

It is our offense and defense against our destructive enemy,

and

it is our direct connection to God.

The Bible is filled with covenants and promises accessible to those who’ve accepted Jesus Christ into their hearts. That’s a lot of nuts and bolts if you ask me!

Just like there are so many pieces that make up a particular furniture item think of the various aspects that make up our lives. Emotionally, physically, financially, relationally, careers and callings, so many pieces make a whole through our lifetime, and we have access to the instructions.

This book of instruction is laced with grace and love and can be our peace and source of joy.

It’s where we become intentional in living the way God created us to live as we surrender to God’s way of life.

Through the Word of God, we gain so much knowledge and insight into God’s heart towards us. We learn of our identity and purpose, which then drives our actions. It’s filled with history, wisdom, and guidance on how we should revere God and love others.

Adhering to the Bible’s teachings is our way of being true disciples of Christ.

Today I encourage you to cling to God’s word and continue to have a posture of learning. In abiding by His instructions, we entrust every part of our lives to God with faith that everything will work out.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for always being with me. Your word declares that you will never fail or abandon me, so I will not be afraid or discouraged. As I submit my cares to you, I pray for continued insight into various aspects of my life through your word. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Christina Price was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in a Hindu household.  She accepted Jesus as a teenager after being introduced to Christianity by her mother, who became saved herself just a few years before passing away from cancer. After walking away from her faith for years, Christina recommitted her life to Christ as an adult and is now passionate about the Lord and serving others. She believes sharing her experiences will encourage readers to stretch past the superficial trappings of life, and embrace the sovereignty of God’s purpose in their lives.
