A Daily Purpose

Bible Study & Devotional Day 87

Read Today’s Assigned Passages

Guiding Scripture: Luke 8:16-18, “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. 17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.18 Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.”

🔴 A Lasting Value

written by Torrie Slaughter

  • Uncompromising– showing an unwillingness to make concessions to others, especially by changing one’s ways or opinions. (single-minded, tenacious, relentless)
  • Truth is the property of being in accord with fact or reality. The opposite of falsehood. (authenticity, validity)
  • Hide– use (someone or something) to protect oneself from criticism or punishment, especially in a way considered cowardly or unethical.

Uncompromising

The Word of God teaches us in the Gospel of Luke 8:16-18 that nothing is hidden. When the Israelites sinned against God by creating a golden calf, Moses destroyed it, ground it into dust, and cast it into the mountain brook-washing away the sin. (Deuteronomy 9:21)
Our Lord Jesus washed our sin away on Calvary. Christ was beaten into the ground, destroyed by hatred, and treated as a castaway. He walked the road leaving a trail of His blood up to the final altar to die. Christ was the slain, unblemished lamb, crucified to free humans from sin. The separation of darkness and light.

Everything Christ did as He taught, healed and ruled in the hearts of many manifested in an ultimate Lamp standing on a hill for all to see.

Truth Rises!

The character of God is holy, righteous, honorable, and truth! Jesus did not die upon the cross for His followers to cower in corners or avoid challenges. We are to understand the tremendous value the everlasting Kingdom offers our souls. Because Christ revealed who He is through the completion of His earthly purpose. Jesus Christ is the center of the Bible story. Everything pointed to Him in the Old Testament and revolved around the Son of God in the New Testament.

Imagine if all who claim to know God would shine their lights before others and give glory to our Heavenly Father. We, as believers, are responsible for showing our belief through faith in action. By completing the tasks that God proves will benefit society, we shine His Light of compassion.

Hidden Agenda

The enemy is here but to kill, steal, and destroy. His fate is sealed. However, that doesn’t have to be our destination. Deuteronomy 9:16 “So circumcise the foreskin of your [minds and] hearts; be no longer stubborn and hardened.” We have a choice and power to follow Jesus wholeheartedly.

As you read today’s scriptures, ask God to help you overcome pride, anger, and fear to increase your spiritual knowledge. What will your response be to Jesus’ proclamation of the Kingdom of God? Will you let His Light reflect through you?
