Guiding Scripture: Matthew 24:1-28
We serve a living God and read a living Word. Matthew 24 speaks of things familiar 2000 years ago and today. Here in the United States, our wars look slightly different, and I will not compare our current circumstances to those of other countries. Persecuted Christians are unable to worship openly. They meet in secret, crowding together around devoted shepherds who coordinate efforts to save the unsaved and share wisdom to equip others to do the same. Shame on us. Shame on me for not doing more to spread the Gospel and shrinking back inwardly worried about how they will accept me.
Matthew 24:12 “And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.”
What is lawlessness?
It is a state of disorder due to a disregard of the law.
The disciples asked Jesus questions about the signs of destruction. Our Lord lists them as wars, famines, pestilences, earthquakes, persecution of Christ-followers, and apostasy from the truth.(Matthew 24:6-13)
Christ intends His Words to guide our consciousness and conversations.
Matthew 28:4 tells us to watch out that no one deceives us. As Jesus teaches about the end of the age, He firmly warns of believing someone knows when the world will end. Our responsibility is to be alert and ready for it.
As our climate forces change and churches must do things differently, we should learn new communication methods. We need to empower our brothers and sisters to share the Gospel and bear witness to the coming of Christ.
While we may not like the advances technology has made, we certainly can benefit from the far-reaching global impact we have at our fingertips.
