Guiding Scripture: Hebrews  8:13 ‘By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.’

🔴 Obsolete

written by: Torrie Slaughter

What do an eight-track player, Walkman, Cordless phone, and Atari have in common? They are all products that I had to explain to a seven-year-old. She had no idea what those items were or if they were real. All of the above were upgraded…replaced with better technology and readily available in one place, a smartphone.

Today we can listen to music, books, podcasts, enjoy conversations, and play arcade-style games from one device. We are mobile and have the power to connect with anyone with the touch of a button. Add social media and the possibilities are endless.

As I read Hebrews 8, I couldn’t help but think of all the things I’ve replaced over the years. The stuff I loved in grammar school is considered antiques simple because they aren’t as efficient as their predecessors. No matter how old you are, with each passing hour, something is discontinued.

But God!

His Word is everlasting, and His love is eternal. God never goes back on His promises. What He did for humanity was amplify His voice by speaking through His Son Jesus. We can all experience a relationship with God through Christ because He sacrificed His life for us.

Why?

Sin. Our sinful nature caused division and kept us from being in fellowship with our Lord. Greed, pride, and lust hardened the hearts of humanity and blinded us to the truth of Christ.

However, our God is merciful, and He gave us another chance, albeit a final One. God revised the Covenant agreement, and now we have an eternal High Priest interceding on our behalf. Jesus reigns forever as our risen Savior. Hallelujah!

Let us all praise God and live life with renewed faith and expectantly wait for Christ to return.

Prayer:  Abba Father, help us not to forget what you have done. Keep our minds stayed on You. Amen
