Guiding Scripture: Hebrews 6:10 ‘God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.’

🔴 Christian Maturity

written by: Torrie Slaughter

In this chapter, the author urges the Hebrews to grow spiritually and prevent apostasy by remembering that God is not unjust and will not forget their work. We can build on the foundation of Christ’s perfection as we seek divine enlightenment.

Phases of Love

As in any committed relationship, we desire to learn:

We want to know their favorite books, foods, movies, and as we move beyond the superficial things, we want to know more about their character. Asking questions, enjoying conversations, sharing dreams and ideas is all part of the relationship-building process.

Love is something that grows, matures, and evolves.

How do we love Jesus?

We learn to be kind.

Proverbs 19:17Kindness to the poor is a loan to the LORD, and He will repay the lender.

The amazing thing about our Lord and Savior is that we cannot outdo Him. God wants us to be motivated to act sincerely and mercifully to everyone we encounter, even our enemies.

We keep His Commandments.

John 14:23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

Jesus meets us in a relationship and fills our hearts with a satisfying love.

We Follow Christ’s Example

Psalm 86:15 But you, O Lord, are merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

God is just and fair. Just as Jesus was slow to anger and react to those who rebelled, we too need to be gracious and humble ourselves even to our enemies. Becoming lovely so that Jesus can work through us, builds us up to persevere through trials. We can be confident in the fruit we bear for the Kingdom of God if we are willing to ripen and feed others the sweetness of God’s glorious purpose.

Prayer: Lord please help us move forward in maturity with open hearts and minds. Amen
