Guiding Scripture: 2 Timothy 2:10 ‘Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. ‘
🔴 Fortitude
written by: Torrie Slaughter
According to Google: Endurance is the ability of an organism to exert itself and remain active for an extended period, as well as its ability to resist, withstand, recover from, and have immunity to trauma, wounds, or fatigue.
When we read that definition and think about God’s grace, we may wonder if we are doing enough. Life is a responsibility and not something to take for granted. Our time is a gift, a precious commodity and what we speak, think, and produce is evidence of our ability to withstand mischief.
The Apostle Paul outlines solid strategies to advance the Gospel in Ephesus. Paul encourages Timothy by reminding him that God is on his side. If we were to summarize 2 Timothy 2:1-21, we would find practical tools to add to our daily living.
Strategies for Dealing with False Narratives
- Paul advises Timothy to be consistent, faithful, and courageous. He reminds Timothy that he is a soldier for Christ and to wait expectantly for the fruit of his labors. (2 Timothy 2:1-7)
- The encouragement continues because the reward of faithfulness is future joy. (2 Timothy 2:8-13)
- Timothy should avoid godless chatter and quarrels because, at the root, they have no value. Instead, Timothy should show himself as an approved worker of Christ. (2 Timothy 2:14-21)
For Timothy living in Ephesus and kingdom building caused great suffering; Paul knew the obstacles Timothy would endure and assisted even though he was in chains. Today, we are blessed to have these words that serve as teaching, correction, and guidance as we deal with false teachers and disturbances of faith.
As you read today’s passages, pay attention to the emphasis on God’s sovereignty. I hope you will continue to endure and walk with Christ as the Leader of your heart. We, as God’s people, can equip ourselves to advance the kingdom of our Lord. Don’t just claim to know who God is; passionately seek Him through His Word.
Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for giving us the power to endure difficult processes. Your works are great, and your ways are profound. Lord, help your righteous children flourish. You are our Great Provider, and we recognize your throne that was established long ago. You are the source of our strength. Amen
