We may wonder what pleases God. In this fallen world, we have many influences and distractions. But God tells us in His Word that we live holy, peaceful, productive, and loving lives through Him. The Apostle Paul reminds the Thessalonians that they are examples and taught by God to love one another.
A few passages that ripple through 1 Thessalonians 4:9:
John 6:45: It is written in the Prophets: ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from Him comes to Me
Psalm 133:1 A Song of degrees of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
Isaiah 54:13 Then all your sons will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their prosperity.
Jeremiah 31:34 No longer will each man teach his neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquities and will remember their sins no more.”
1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 also encourages us by reminding us that all believers will rise to enjoy Christ’s appearance. No one will miss His glorious return. That is the beautiful transcendence of God’s agapē.
As you read today’s passages, look for ways you can earnestly seek to live peacefully. A practice what you’ve learned through Christ.
Prayer: Father, we faithfully seek you and desire to experience Your transformative love. Help us look expectantly to you and be people worthy to walk in your ways. Amen
