🔴 Every Good Work

Today we began Colossians, a letter written by the Apostle Paul to people he did not know on behalf of his coworker in Christ Epaphras. When Epaphras visited Paul in prison, he shared the struggles of the Colossian church. The cultural pressures were influencing the believers to turn away from Jesus. As a remedy for them and encouragement to us, Paul challenged them to greater devotion to Christ Jesus.
Colossians 1:1-17 includes greetings with thanksgiving to God for what He has done through these people. Paul is excited about their faith, love, and the hope they have in Jesus. (Colossians 1:1-8) Paul then moves into prayer and a beautiful poem that echoes scripture from the Old Testament.
As you read the letter to the Church at Colosse, think about your influences.
Are you boldly professing Jesus as your Lord and Savior, or does society pressure you to revert to former behavior?
Paul’s words can serve as a reminder to conduct ourselves pleasingly to the Lord. The incredible gift that will grow from our obedience is the blessing of fruit. God grants wisdom to those who seek Him. I hope your desire for His truth will flourish.
Prayer: May we always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. As we pray for one another, please help us see your steadfast love. Father, increase our devotion so that we may be supportive within the body of Christ. Amen
