Guiding Scripture: Philippians 2:25 ‘But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, co-worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs.

🔴 Essential

written by: Torrie Slaughter

It is incredible to be a servant for Jesus. No matter the earthly circumstance, it will glorify God when we obediently follow His command to love. That is where Epaphroditus enters into Paul’s life. -A man sent to minister to Paul’s needs while he was imprisoned. As if that weren’t challenging enough, Epaphroditus became deathly ill.

Has your help ever became a hindrance?

That physical and mental strain had to be excruciating. Yet, Paul was full of joy. But how? Paul was waiting in prison, not knowing his fate. (Philippians 2:23) He will be alone if Timothy goes to Philippi without him (Philippians 2:20), and he grieves over the behavior of his fellow self-serving brothers (Philippians 2:21).

It appears that all of Paul’s sorrows are taking a toll on his mental state. However, he remains confident in the Lord. He trusts God to do his will, and that is a reality to rejoice. (Philippians 2:24)

As you read today’s passages, think about your life:

  • Do you have close companions who would risk their lives to spread the Gospel? (Philippians 2:30)
  • Are you a mentor or student working to advance God’s Kingdom? (Philippians 2:22)
  • Have you asked God to strengthen your resolve to love and not seek selfish ambition? (Philippians 2:21)

What has God required you to do, achieve, or be present? Will you answer the call and be an essential worker?

Prayer: Lord, please help us when our hearts grieve, and we weep bitterly. Remind us of your nearness and open our eyes to your mercy. We want to honor you with our service and be the expressions of Jesus You desire. Amen
