Guiding Scripture:  Philippians 2:3 ‘Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,’

🔴 Be Lovely

written by: Torrie Slaughter

Philippians 2:3 is a profoundly wise verse woven into the letter to the Philippians. The value we place on others and how we behave divinely links to Christ and His work on the cross. As our faith grows, so does our desire to be more like Jesus.

But why does that matter?

Well, if you have ever arrogantly thought you were better than someone else because of your education, social status, or financial standing, you have rebelled against the character of Jesus.

What can you do to guard yourself against repelling people?

  1. Unite with Christ. (Philippians 2:1)
  2. Be like-minded in Spirit and love. (Philippians 2:2)
  3. Value others above yourself. (Philippians 2:3)
  4. Ask questions and seek opportunities to serve. (Philippians 2:4)
  5. Do everything with an attitude of Christ (Philippians 2:13)

If you are easily offended or belittle attempts of a deeper relationship with others, it will affect your spiritual growth. You have a choice. As Jesus asked the scribes in Mark 2:9, Is it easier to say to this man, ‘Your sins are forgiven? Or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’?’

We who believe and know the miracles and character of God should enthusiastically seek loves covering.

Jesus became human and emptied Himself on the cross for us (Philippians 2:6-11). While we cannot repay Him for the debt He paid, we can live life as lovely expressions of His walk here on earth.

As you read today’s passages, think about ways you can positively influence yourself and your immediate community. How will God’s love show up while you’re in traffic, talking to a friend, or at work? We have several ways to exemplify the love Christ has for everyone. Are you willing to be lovely?
