🔴 A Responsible Christ-Follower, Part 1
written by: Torrie Slaughter
Today’s assigned passages include the first half of Ephesians 4. The Apostle Paul spells out the duties and practices of faithful Christians. In verses 1-16, Paul writes about life, work, education, and the church body. What we do every day is a reflection of spiritual maturity.
How should a Christ-follower live, and what are the expectations?
To promote unity, mutual love, and proper motivation to exhort the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God gives us abundant gifts, and He helps us develop and cultivate them. This letter urges us to practice drawing near to the Lord faithfully. We are united in Christ and are part of a larger body, a system that works together through graceful love.
Paul’s straightforward method helps us remember our identity in Christ and that the Kingdom of God is near.
Ephesians 4:1-16 points out key examples.
- Vocation: The work we engage in should support us financially and spiritually. While the Lord provides for our needs, our responsibility is to seek opportunities to employ ourselves in worthy endeavors. Because we live as Christ ambassadors, peace and unity are our goals. (Ephesians 4:1-6)
- Variety: Our spiritual maturity grows as we begin to value the distinct characteristics absent of uniformity within the body of Christ. The incredible beauty of virtuous people uniting for one purpose is exhilarating! No wonder Jesus left the Holy Spirit to guide us into truth and understanding (1 Corinthians 12:13)?!
He wanted us to experience an ounce of wisdom when it comes to seeing the heart of humanity. Through variety, we build up His Kingdom, the church, and one another. (Ephesians 4:7-13)
- Awareness: In Ephesians 4:14-16, the Apostle Paul urges Christ-followers to be spiritually conscious. The ability to perceive, use feelings as a gauge, and understand events is practicing Divine wisdom. As we realize that our knowledge is not based on our limited human minds but, the mysteries God reveals helps us to engage in healthy doctrinal practices. Paul warns us about teaching as unbelievers who seek division. The more we abide in God, we increase steadfastness.
Father, we give praise to you! Thank you for joining us and all our various parts into one body. We know it is You who powers us and keeps all things working correctly. Please help us continue to grow in Divine maturity and build one another up in love. Amen
