Guiding Scripture: Psalms 59:1 ‘Deliver me from my enemies, O God; be my fortress against those who are attacking me.’

🔴Not Guilty

written by: Torrie Slaughter

A few months ago, I watched a video of a mother as she repeatedly told her toddler son that he was about to eat an onion. However, the very self-confident little boy argued that it was an apple. Well, they went back and forth until finally, he took a bite. His face frowned up but, he would not admit his mother was right.

There is nothing more frustrating than telling the truth and then not being affirmed. (welcome to parenting? LOL)

Thankfully our Heavenly Father knows the truth and how to deal with our enemies. While many of us may not understand military attacks, we should be familiar with the opposition. At times pride can be our worst enemy.

In Psalm 59, the current events grieve the author. While he speaks about his turmoil, he understands the entire city is under attack. The author declares his innocence and expresses hope that God will deliver him from the invasion.

Even when rivals or villains attack our character, business, or family, we can cry out to God. By placing our trust in the One who can deliver us from our enemies, we exercise wisdom.

We can also learn valuable lessons from this psalm as we navigate our days:

  1. The enemy waits for an opportune time.
  2. As Jesus-followers, we may request God’s protection.
  3. We may ask God to be just and fair.
  4. Praise God and wait expectantly.

As you read today’s passages, think about your guilt and innocence. Have you turned to the Lord for help? Remember, God is our defense, and He is merciful.

Prayer: Father, help us to abide in you that we remain in your will. Please deliver us from our known and unknown enemies.  Amen
