Guiding Scripture: 2 Corinthians 11:5 ‘I do not think I am in the least inferior to those “super-apostles.” ‘
🔴Not So Superb
written by: Torrie Slaughter
In an interesting twist, the Apostle Paul calls out the false teachers of Corinth by insulting them. Paul knows that some teachers are taking credit for his efforts but more damaging promoting Jesus as a Greek philosopher rather than the Savior who died for their sins.
The intermingling of religious practices, ideas, and mindsets was enough to confuse and destroy the purity of Jesus’ work on the cross. Paul had good reason to be stern and call out those who indulged in culturalism.
Two-Faces
Unfortunately, we live under similar circumstances. However, we have another layer, people-pleasing. I’ve noticed how far leaders will go to keep everyone ‘happy’ even if it causes strife and division in the end. Some would call it sharpening, but I believe the Apostle Paul would describe it as heresy.
The Apostle Paul warns in 2 Corinthians 11:14-15, ‘And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.’
As you read today’s passages, think about your position. Are you a leader within your home, business, school, or community? If so, ask God through the Holy Spirit to reveal any errors and seek forgiveness. God will help you navigate any conflict or conversations that result from your mistakes.
While it is critical to elevate and build, it is just as essential to do so with integrity.
Prayer: Lord, we understand you want what is best for us because of your great love and mercy. Help us to use Your light to expose false claims. Amen.
