Guiding Scripture: Psalm 39:4 ‘Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is.’
🔴Time
I recently celebrated another birthday. I began the day with prayer and thankfulness. In the brevity of human life, God gives incredible moments of clarity. And on that new day, I witnessed the interconnectedness of His grace and mercy. The Holy Spirit revealed and answered questions through a series of events that will remain imprinted on my heart.
My Human Nature
I can be stubborn, but I adjust my posture once God’s will smacks against me like a speeding car knocking me into spiritual reality. It is incredibly challenging to forge ahead, defending how I would oppose God’s perfect plan. The more I wrestled, the more exhausted I become. It has taken years to break the cycle of arrogance and humble myself before the Lord. That humility applies to my working relationships with others. It causes me to strive to be obedient to my God.
Meanwhile
Every time we encounter a milestone or life event that interrupts the typical pattern of our day, we should pause and ask: What is God trying to teach me?
In Psalm 39, the psalmist is suffering because of sin. Remaining silent wasn’t an option. He had to know what God’s plans were. In his suffering the writer asked for relief. Even in his discomfort, he pleaded with God to grant him the wisdom to know the brevity of life.
As you read today’s passages, think about the times you’ve tried to remain silent, but discomfort or uncertainty caused you to cry out. Ask God to reveal areas of your life that require His attention. We can trust our Abba Father to enlighten and encourage us to be good stewards of His garden.
