Guiding Scripture:  1 Corinthians 1:10 ‘I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.’

🔴 Seeing Life Through the Lens of the Gospel

Today we begin reading the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Christian Church at Corinth. A city known for its wealth and commerce becuase of its location between the Ionian and Aegean Seas. Corinth was the third largest port city in Greece and part of the Roman Empire. The Apostle Paul founded the church around 51AD (Acts 18:1-11)

Just like the Corinthians, we fight temptations of selfish ambition and doing what is right in our own eyes. There is no spiritual basis for conforming to this world. I believe that was the core issue with the Church at Corinth and many religious organizations today.

There were many obstacles.

God used Paul to strengthen and build unity around the risen Savior Jesus Christ. Immorality, division, and selfish desires led them to rebel against God’s perfect and Holy Word. An enormous issue with a new church and way of life.

This world challenges the saints to find new ways to compete in the darkness. But the Word of God is light, a lamp unto our paths. The Apostle Paul urges believers to live in the Spirit. By putting others first, we see ourselves as part of the body of Christ. Those who distort the Gospel or only focus on doctrines that benefit their selfish ambitions do not practice wisdom.

Heed the Word of God and be aware of how the Gospel is shared within your church.

  • Is it about the power of the preacher or the crucified Savior which promotes the glory of God?

Prayer: Lord, guide us to keep Jesus’ resurrection as the central focus of our belief. May everything we do glorify Your great Name. Help us to receive discipline and remain humble as you keep us purposed on Your path.
