Guiding Scripture: Romans 10:3 ‘For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.’

🔴Willful Ignorance

The Word of God warns against foolishness. Because God is the Creator of knowledge, we honor and respect Him when we seek His wisdom.

To be ignorant takes shape in two ways:

  1. We don’t realize there was something to learn—
  2. The desire to practice unawareness in general.

There is an art to ‘not knowing’. If one is uneducated and remains uneducated, then they cannot be responsible for their actions.

Romans 10:3 is one place where the Word of God through Paul speaks to the fleshly urge to do things our way. Willful ignorance allows one to establish a comfortable methodology. They are stubborn and determined to do as they want regardless of the consequences or effects.

As Seen on Social Media

There was a video of a three-year-old boy. His mother filmed him as he repeatedly and with determined authority exclaimed that the item he held was an apple. However, his mother zooms in on the object, and it is, in fact, an onion. Her son is about to take a bite, and again she warns him that it’s an onion, not an apple. The child takes a bite, makes a face, and continues to eat the onion slowly in his willful ignorance.

Apples & Onions

Sometimes I have trouble surrendering to God’s will. Especially if He sends a person to correct or teach me. I can be like an onion peeling back the layers of pride, shame, or guilt. But, once the hard, inedible stem is revealed, I have a choice:

  1. Suffer the consequences of the bitter bite.
  2. Or acknowledge my fault and take it to the Lord in prayer.

Habbakuk 2:4 reminds us that the one who is right with God will live by faith. The Apostle Paul challenges his fellow Jewish brothers and sisters to pursue a relationship with God through faith in Christ Jesus. We, too, can stop practicing manufactured laws and be made righteous through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.

Deliberation

Knowing why God sent His sinless Son to earth and accepting through faith His grace and mercy makes us right with God. Remaining willfully ignorant is a tactic of the enemy. The effects of his schemes lead to death, destruction, and grief. Let’s place our complete confidence in Jesus and boldly proclaim that He is the way, the truth, and the life. Through Him, we have gained access by faith into the grace in which we stand. Rejoice in the hope and glory of God!

Prayer: Lord helps us to remember to trust in You. Amen
